Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the home cooked food and its wide menu, with a balti pie whose chicken "fell apart", a chicken strip starter, 16 oz steaks, and the chilli singled out by name. Close behind are the Sunday dinners, steak and ale pie, and the kids' mixed grill, which one group of seven enjoyed alongside a bingo win. Portions are described as large, and several call the atmosphere homely, with staff friendly and the outside play area a draw for families. Dog friendliness gets a mention too. The complaints are specific. One reviewer found the fish and lamb disappointing, with the lamb all bits and ends and portion sizes uneven. Another noted no draught bitters or ales on one visit, though a different reviewer praised the cask ales. A parent describes a bar staff member tossing a bunch of keys toward their partner for the locked baby changing room while their toddler was upset, and the same diner mentions smoke drifting in through open doors. Several say to book a table, and one reviewer describes food being ordered at the bar and brought to the table.

“First time back after many years and very popular even for a Tuesday lunchtime. Very dog friendly and had a table in the bar area. Advised there would be a 45 minute wait for food which was totally accurate. Very pleased with the menu and good variety which was a pleasant change from the usual "pub grub" Only let down by the drinks selection which we found, in common with an increasing amount of pubs, no draught bitters or ales available. What is going on regarding this situation, I have no idea! Overall, very enjoyable and would recommend The Loyal Lodge.”

“We both had 16 oz steaks and they didn’t disappoint. Cooked really well and tasty. Looking forward to returning soon”

“Serves good quality home cooked with decent portions. There’s an extensive menu with some different choices so there’s enough for everyone. Staff were a bit of a mixed bag. For the most part the service was excellent, the staff that served us were polite and friendly. One issue we had was during our meal my partner took our toddler, who’s in potty training and was having a meltdown as he’d had an accident, to the disabled toilet/baby changing which is locked. The member of staff behind the bar got a bunch of keys and threw them towards my partner and said “you’ll have to figure out which one it is yourself, I don’t know”, not the most helpful when your holding a crying child and gives the feeling that you’re just an inconvenience and not a customer. Inside of the pub is decorated well and has a homely feel to it. We were sat at the table right next to the entrance from the car park. This wasn’t an issue in itself as there was plenty of room for people to come in and out. The only problem was on this day the doors were being left open and right outside the entrance is the outdoor seating/smoking area so we constantly had the smell of smoke wafting in and lingering while we were eating, not the worst thing in the world but certainly not a positive when we’re a group of non smokers.”

“This place is consistently fantastic! I've never had a bad meal here. The food is always delicious and prepared perfectly. On top of that, the service is absolutely outstanding. I'd give them a solid 10 out of 10 for their attentiveness and friendliness.”

“Great place. Great atmospheric. Staff brilliant. Food okay, a bit hit n miss. No tastecto the fish (not cod). Lamb, no slices all bits and ends. Some portions bigger than others, no consistency, but plenty of food. Outside area for kids to play in. Overall, I would go back. Staff made it!!”
