Customer Review Summary

Sunday roast draws the strongest praise, with one diner calling it among the best in a long time, while another chose the pie on a Sunday evening and praised its excellent filling. Close behind are the baked scallops with spinach and cheese, arancini described as delicately flavoured, and premium burgers called tasty, with one reviewer noting the food arrived hot. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming even when the pub is packed, and one server explained dishes and apologised for a wait. The recurring complaint is slow table clearing. One regular describes leftover plates and glasses on many tables, asking twice for a table to be cleaned and holding their food while staff wiped it. Another notes half empty plates sitting on an outdoor table for the whole visit. One reviewer found the portions a bit too generous, and one suggests booking for Sunday evenings. Dog owners point to a jar of treats and a water station with bowls just inside the door.

“Had a lovely lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered from the new menu & it was so worth it. The food was amazing. I had arancini which was delicately flavoured and light on the tummy. Portion sizes were a bit too generous in my opinion. But the standard and quality of the food was top tier.”

“We visited on spec on a Sunday evening, it’s a place we used to visit regularly in the 1990s (under its previous name). Pleasantly surprised that it still had that familiarity. The menu had a full list of Sunday roasts but we went for the pie. Have to say, it was epic — very classy, excellent filling and clearly well made. The Guinness was good too. We had a nice conversation with Chelsea, who looked after us well. For Sunday evening it still had a busy vibe (best to book in future). Really pleased that an off the cuff visit turned out to be a great decision. Thanks to all at Swallows Nest.”

“A lovely country pub with a nice patio area for outdoor seating, great customer service and delicious food! The young lad serving us was very polite and well-mannered, and the lady at the bar was also nice. Ordered the following dishes (as pictured): 1) Creamy Garlic Oven-Baked Mushrooms (£8.25) 2) Salt and Pepper Calamari (£8.95) 3) Trio of Baked Scallops (£13.25) 4) Unsure of the dish name, however I think it included mini chorizo sausages, a hot honey sausage roll and halloumi fries. I couldn't find it on the online menu so perhaps it was taken off. Prices were fair. All the food was served hot (a rarity!!) and well-presented. The food was delicious. Definitely recommend the scallops, which were very unique and tasted great with the spinach and cheese. Dish No. 4 pictured was also great, especially the chorizo sausages.”

“We had lunch here on a Thursday with our 2 dogs. Very dog friendly pub, with a jar of treats and a water station with bowls to fill as you walk through the door. We were able to choose a table in a less busy part, tucked into a corner, perfect for dogs. All the staff were very welcoming & friendly. The range of 0% drinks was excellent. We both had premium burgers and they were very nice and tasty. No one came to clear our plates away, but we were happy to be left alone. We would be very pleased to return if in the area again.”
