About The Duke of York
The Duke of York is a pub restaurant on Barnet Rd in Barnet, furnished with wooden floorboards, rugs, prints, old photographs and books. Two open fires burn indoors. Outside, the secluded gardens hold a small children's play area with a couple of swings and a tractor, so families can let younger guests play within sight of the grown-ups. The kitchen serves a roast with trimmings, and Yorkshire puddings cost extra unless you order the beef or mixed roast. Gluten free options run across much of the menu. Meals are served in separate dining areas rather than one large hall, and lawns and flower beds soften the pub's outer grounds.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is what most reviewers come for, with several calling the portions generous and the trimmings fantastic. Close behind are the venison pie, garlic prawns and arancini, and a gluten free menu one diner found better than expected. Pimms and Lemonade on the shaded terrace, the large outside seating and a small children's area with swings and a tractor also draw praise, and servers are repeatedly called attentive and friendly. Criticism is more specific. One diner found the pork roast dry and overcooked, with hard roast potatoes, lukewarm trimmings and Yorkshires charged as an extra, though staff offered to replace the veg. Another was unhappy that a man in a patterned shirt hurried them from their table while others sat empty. A third found the Brewfest advertised craft beer but served only cask, and a staff member would not accept the advertising said so. One reviewer called a glass of wine steep. Even so, diners with a special occasion or a catch up with friends describe leisurely meals.

“It was lovely to sit outside on a hot summer's day on the shaded terrace, sipping Pimms and Lemonade whilst we waited for our meal. Had a lovely leisurely lunch with frends. The food was tasty and the portion size generous. The waiting staff were attentive, friendly and professional. My only disappointment was the way we were ushered from our table at the end of our meal by a rude man in a flowered/patterned shirt, especially when many other tables were free. There are better ways to speak to your clientèle to move them on. He spoilt what was otherwise a lovely experience, which was tragic given we were celebrating a special occasion. I hope management read this feedback and learn from it.”

“We went on a Monday night so it wasn't so crowded. The food was very good as was the service. A nice very large outside seating available for both eating and just drinks. Altogether we ( 6 of us) enjoyed the evening. Very reasonably priced.”

“Fantastic Sunday roast with all the trimmings. Portions more than generous. We ate outside under a beautiful canopy. A small are for children with a couple of swings and a tractor which is the main attraction for the little ones.”

“This is a difficult review to write as this Pubs food is very good and there Beer garden is very nice . My issue is with the Staff and the advertising, I today went with a friend to there Brewfest which was extremely disappointing. We was both looking forward to visiting as they were advertising on there Website & Social Media that they would be serving Craft Beer . When we arrived we were told it was only Cask Beer and the staff member basically refused to believe that Craft Beer was being advertised. Nice Pub but incorrect advertising and poor staff knowledge coupled with an attitude means I cannot recommend it.”

“First time here and loved the ambience. Great to have separate areas rather than one large noisy dining hall. Our waitress Jessica and her colleagues were great, all were polite and attentive. Favourite course was the starters, garlic prawns and arancini were lovely. Would definitely return to try the rest of the menu.”

“We've recently put a lot of effort into bringing the Duke of York back to its roots as a classic pub restaurant: you'll find good old furniture, wooden floorboards, lots of prints, old photographs, rugs and books, and two open fires. We've softened the outside areas of the pub with lawns and flower beds, and our lovely secluded gardens are a real suntrap.”
