About Fishmongers Arms

The pool table, dartboard, and juke box sit alongside a schedule of quizzes and live music, giving regulars a reason to stay beyond a drink. Outdoor seating stretches into a large area, part of it covered, with a separate family garden space for those with children. Dogs are welcome throughout. The entrance is step-free and wheelchair-accessible, making the pub straightforward to reach for visitors with mobility needs. A car park sits on site, though drivers are asked to give their vehicle details to bar staff to avoid a ticket.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out friendly, welcoming bar staff, with several describing attentive service and a relaxed local feel full of regulars. The games draw repeated mention: a pool table, dartboard and juke box, plus quizzes and live music, and one reviewer praises an espresso martini. Others note a large, bright interior, outdoor seating and a garden space the kids enjoy, with drinks described as cheaper than most pubs nearby. Against that, several reviewers describe rude, condescending staff, and the complaint centres on pressure to keep buying. Two separate groups of women say they were told to order more or leave, one describing being yelled at in front of other customers after finishing a drink, and one of them reports that men in the pub leered at them. Another reviewer says the owner told them to leave when they did not buy drinks. In the most detailed account, two black teas were cleared away and the pair were then told they had to order something.

“This place had the rudest bartender / front of house- Tilly. From when me and my friend entered for a nice catch up, she approached us, having just sat down, asking ‘what do you want’ abruptly and we got up to go to the bar, my friend asked for a menu and she said ‘no we don’t do food’ assuming we were looking to eat, but we meant for a drinks menu as it’s a pub at late evening to night time. I asked if they do hot drinks which she didn’t take to well at all, she gave us two black teas - we went to sit back down carrying them and chat, choosing to ignore her. My friend had finished her drink and as I got to the bottom of mine, I could feel stares the whole time related to finishing the tea later, soon enough Tilly walked over and took the cups and saucers away to which we said thanks. Two minutes later and she walked over, stopped in front of us and said ‘girls, you *have* to order something to drink, that’s how this works’. She stomped off and vanished behind the bar. We considered leaving because at this point everyone in the pub in that area was staring, as if we’re not just two 20 something girls sat in our corner of the pub chatting and having a drink, like anyone else. We got up to go to the bar and the group of guys sat there all looked on and said ‘fair play’ then called for Tilly to come back out. She demanded ‘are you going to order something’ - meanwhile I could see tables of the few people that were there (meaning there’s no rush for seats or for us to keep ordering to keep a seat) nursing their single beers, and later sitting for time on time with empty pint glasses and beer bottles and she hadn’t gone up to collect their empty stuff until they left, or asked them to get something else. The difference was these other tables were older men. From the moment we came in, she acted like we’d done something. I’ve worked in a local family pub before at uni, and go to catch up with friends and my partner in other bars / pubs / restaurants where after you sit, if they come up to ask for your order or if you’d like anything it’s phrased exactly that way, in a hospitable way - the way the job entails. You want customers to come back, not to leave and never return. Additionally, in any other place, if your cups or anything are taken while you’re still there chatting, and they come to ask if you’d like anything else (put so so much more normally and nicely), when you say no thanks or just have tap water, it’s always fine because you’re a paying customer - you’re always able to be left to it to relax and talk - but not in this place. A pub is supposed to be warm and inviting, not the vibes of this place.”

“Do not recommend and never going back. The woman with ginger hair yelled at us when we walked in (2 girls) because we sat down for a minute before ordering a drink and then did it again in front of everyone when we finished our drink, saying we need to order more immediately or need to leave. Whatever the ‘rules’ are she could’ve asked us in a civilised manner. All of the men were leering at us creepily and I did not feel respected as a woman, I was constantly on edge. She gave us the evil eye the whole time, even when we were ordering.”
