About The Duke Sunninghill
The Duke Sunninghill is a gastropub in Ascot at 2 Upper Village Rd, open daily with reservations required. Themed wine tasting evenings, such as a rosé night or a sparkling wine and champagne night, give each guest a personal charcuterie plate. Strangers sit together at shared tables, so the evenings suit people who want to meet others over a glass. Hungarian wines are served. On the food side, the kitchen sends out a sharing Camembert with chutney as a starter and a roast dinner with beef. Quizzes and other themed evenings run alongside the tastings. The pub also hosts private events for groups, including a wedding reception and a BBQ for 24 guests the night before a wedding. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers mostly come back to the food, singling out a roast dinner where the beef was delicious and a sharing Camembert starter with a chutney one diner could have eaten on its own. Close behind are the events and the landlord's hands-on hosting. One family held a BBQ for 24 the night before a wedding, with steak, chicken skewers, halloumi skewers and prawns, and guests' dietary requirements were handled with ease. Another couple held their wedding reception here and praise the landlord for going above and beyond. A rosé-themed wine tasting night gave each guest a generous charcuterie plate and a sociable shared table. Diners also mention the wine, a cozy atmosphere, a garden with a patio and lawn, and a spotlessly clean interior that surprised one visitor expecting a dingy pub. The one complaint comes from a weekday lunch visitor who came for the two-course set menu advertised on the website and found it unavailable, though the food off the normal menu was excellent. One group arriving spontaneously on a Friday night was squeezed in.

“We held our wedding reception here in July. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Food was and is amazing. It’s a lovely little village pub. We are so glad we picked this place for our wedding. Beautiful memories. Andreas (the landlord) we cannot praise him enough, he really went above and beyond to create the most magical day and evening for us .”

“Andras and his team are amazing! We hosted a BBQ at the pub the night before our son's wedding for 24 people and they couldn't do enough for us . Planning this event from miles away was made so easy - great comms and flexibility as things inevitably kept changing from our end. The food was amazing - canapes, salads and sides and fabulous BBQ food - steak, chicken skewers, halloumi skewers and prawns to die for and more!. They managed to navigate all of our guests dietary requirements with ease. The fizz and the wine were fantastic - no idea Hungarian wines were so good. Staff were hugely accommodating and helpful and we were all made to feel very welcome. It was really well priced too. I wished we lived nearer!”

“I haven't been to a British pub in at least fifteen years. I remember them as dingy, dark, and not particularly clean, so it was with great surprise and enjoyment that I found myself in the Duke, taken aback by its superb ambience, spotlessly clean interior, and cheerful service from the manager, Andreas. It completely changed my understanding of what a pub could be. It's a lovely place to spend time, and I'll definitely be back.”

“Fantastic evening at the wine tasting night last Friday! It was a rosé-themed evening 🖤 The owner was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, happy to answer any questions throughout the night. I even learned that a darker pink rosé doesn't necessarily mean it's sweeter! Everyone was given their own charcuterie plate, and the portions were very generous. I went with a friend and we were seated with two other pairs – everyone was lovely and sociable, and we had a great time chatting and tasting together. It was such a nice way to meet new people in the area. Already looking forward to coming back for the sparkling wine/champagne night later this month!”
