About The Golden Retriever
The Golden Retriever is a pub on Nine Mile Ride in Bracknell, set in a building that was once a forester's cottage and dog kennels. A log fire gives guests a place to sit by indoors. The kitchen works through a seasonal menu of classic and modern dishes, with calamari as a starter and pork belly and fillet steak among the mains. Waiters and waitresses bring food to the table rather than serving from a counter. The pub opens daily. Weekends run busier, and weekday evenings are quieter.

“After a day out with my husband and our lab puppy we decided to book a table for food at the Golden Retriever. We haven’t been there for food for at least a year. Our experience was amazing from the minute we arrived. Chloe and Luka behind the bar were so friendly and helpful. We were both so very impressed with our food. Chorizo sausages and pardon peppers were delicious. The fillet steak (medium rare) was cooked to perfection and tender - melted in the mouth. Definitely on par with a very high end specialist steak restaurant which is in the area (The Sherlock Inn) My husband had the pork belly which was also perfectly cooked. Both impressed how hot the food was when it came out. Highly recommend and will definitely be back very soon. The puppy also had no complaints with the titbits. Keep up the great service. Many thanks to the Chef Ben ,we asked his name to add to the review .”

“A really lovely pub that is typical of a Vintage Inn within. The beer selection is ok and the food is definitely good, if not a little expensive for some of the dishes. Overall it's definitely worth eating here. However, what makes the pub stand out is the staff. They are exceptional, friendly and were very accommodating. We arrived late and with barely a few minutes until the kitchen closed, still put our food through and delivered some great meals. The chicken burger is fantastic. A huge thanks to Ben in the kitchen for doing this and being such a great guy from start to finish. He is a real asset to the team.”

“Well I don’t know were to start !!!!!! Your table service waiter was rude… of corse i am joking one of the best establishments I have been to in a long time, food was some of the best I have had full stop! drinks was really nice and service was fast. The waiter ( holly ) was superb, fast bubbly friendly attitude made the whole experience delightful ☺️ we eat out as a company all the time and find it hard to locate good genuine establishments that offer good food and good service. Here we found both 🙌 we will definitely be coming back thank you ( holly ) for making our evening better.”

“Visited today, party of three, popped in at lunchtime, on the way home for pick your own. One chicken club sandwich, one fish finger sandwich and macaroni cheese (I refuse to call it Mac and Cheese) with chips. The chicken club sandwich was toasted on only one side, and was not buttered, the fish finger sandwich did not come in a rustic roll, thankfully, as how can it be a sandwich, and why not call it a Chicken Goujon Roll?, as it is definitely not a Fish finger sandwich, and again toasted one side only and was not buttered. Don’t get me wrong, being toasted on one side helped it somewhat, and it allowed some moisture into the bread, not much, just some. Please can someone explain why it seems to be okay not to put butter on bread, or toast, it is like having a sandpaper sandwich, when toasted! Tartare sauce was added on one side of the sandwich, but it still doesn’t do the job of butter! So although the chicken, bacon and goujons were cooked nicely the sandwiches had no or little flavour. The macaroni cheese was lovely. I did not complain as it was a treat paid for by our daughter, and I wouldn’t embarrass her. The outside seating area was lovely to sit at, in the sun, the mood was comfortable, lovely ambience. A nice place to have a drink, but I would be mindful and ask about the food, I just expect bread to be buttered. Nicely maintained and clean. Our server was Lyndall, who was friendly, attentive, and efficient, even though it was very busy for a Monday lunchtime.”

“We had a lovely, leisurely dinner at The Golden Retriever. Our waitress, Emily, was friendly and flexible. The ambience is relaxed with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The food was solid; the vibes were immaculate.”

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the waiting and bar staff, describing them as friendly, helpful and accommodating. One server took a late party's order just before the kitchen closed, and another made sure a daughter with special needs was included in ordering. Food praise centres on the pork belly, a medium rare fillet steak, the chicken burger and the calamari. The macaroni cheese and a Yorkshire pudding with gravy are also liked, and diners enjoy sitting by the fire or in the outdoor seating. The kitchen draws the sharpest criticism. One diner found the chicken parmigiana, pork belly, Yorkshire puddings and calamari batter overcooked, with starters and mains arriving long after ordering and only after chasing. Another found the chicken club and fish finger sandwiches unbuttered, toasted on one side only and low on flavour. One reviewer says an allergen they had mentioned was brought to the table. After the overcooked meal, the inedible dish was not charged and a free dessert was given.
