About The Dormouse
The Dormouse is a pub on Clifton Park Avenue in York, standing on the site of the former North and East Riding Pauper Hospital, which opened in 1847. Because of that past, the building carries a piece of local history into its present use as a place to eat and drink. Alongside the bar, a restaurant dining room gives sit-down meals their own space. The kitchen cooks seasonal pub classics, and the bar serves cask ales.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the food, with small plates of Belgium fries with mayo, halloumi fries and cheese flatbread described as cooked to perfection and delicious. Close behind are the Sunday and Easter lunches, a chicken burger with sticky toffee pudding, and a full English brunch described as tasty enough. Several praise the choice for vegetarians and kids, and one calls the prices very reasonable. Service earns repeated warmth, with servers described as friendly and funny, helpful with vouchers, and still checking on tables when the room was packed, including on Christmas Eve. One reviewer was surprised the small plates took a while, then felt the unrushed cooking explained it. Another missed the car parking signs and did not register the car, which brought a charge notice from the parking company, but the pub had it cancelled with no hassle. Reviewers also mention the beer garden, a pint of Neckoil, and that dogs are welcome.

“We visited the Dormouse recently with friends who were on holiday. We enjoyed drinks in the beer garden in the afternoon, and decided to book for lunch the next day in the restaurant, which was excellent. When we arrived on the first day we didn't notice the car parking signs, and didn't register the car. We did get a charge notice from the car parking company, but the pub had it cancelled with no hassle. We will certainly be returning, and making sure we register the car on arrival!”

“Just dined here and what a fantastic place! We are not local but we were visiting the area and decided to call in and I’m so glad we did! The food were absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was very warm and inviting and the gentleman who looked after us I think his name was Kev or Kevin was very friendly and greeted us as we walked in. As someone who also works in the hospitality industry I thought he was very professional and had a keen eye for detail we felt very looked after and we will be back again when we are in the area! Thank you door mouse team and special thanks to Kevin!”

“Update : third visit went for a Sunday Brunch . Full English brekkie. Tasty enough. Update: second visit and wasnt disappointed with the chicken burger and sticky toffee pudding combo. Went for the single burger , followed by a bakewell sponge and coffee. Meal washed down with a pint of Neckoil”

“Me, my partner, daughter and father in law had a meal here on Wednesday 27th May and the whole experience was a delight. Warren waited on us and he was very friendly. He was great with my daughter too. We all had a great meal and was very reasonably priced. 10/10 would recommend”
