  “The most amazing Yorkshire pudding we had in York! We had to eat rather quickly because we were rushing to catch a train, but it was ABSOLUTELY WORTH it. I’m not usually a fan of carrots, but they were so delicious that I finished every single one. The food was fantastic, and the portions were very generous. We’re so grateful for the warm hospitality and wonderful service. It’s a shame we didn’t get a chance to take a photo of our table after the meal, but we did make our train in the end, lol. Thank you for such a memorable dining experience!”

  “It was my first time visiting york and I happened to stumble across The hole in the wall. I am so glad i did. The outside really fits in with the history of york and the inside is stunning. The staff were the most polite people i have ever met and their service was amazing! The food was some of the best pub food i have ever had and the prices were really good. The wait for food wasn’t very long either, ordered and food arrived all within 20 minutes!! I am definitely going to be telling everyone i know about this pub and will definitely be going back there!”

  “Excellent friendly service in a quaint old fashioned English pub. The people behind the bar were very good and efficient at their job; especially the guy with the beard. The seating / tables were very clean with all condiments in a neat tray. The food came after about 20 minutes and both meals were freshly cooked and tasted delicious. Highly recommended and I next time we're in York we will return.”

  “Nice pub near the cathedral. Got the Yorkshire pudding with the roast beef which was pretty good. Gravy and vegetables were nicely done. Tried a decent real ale. Kids got fish and chips and burgers which were good. The kids enjoyed the shoots and ladders boardgame they had (along with a few others).”

  “Went here with the hope of having a giant Yorkshire pudding, but these had sold out (this was around 8pm), so I opted for the Steak Americano, an 8oz steak with melted mozzarella and bacon. I somehow ended up with a steak surf and turf, which had peas (who serves a steak with peas?) I told the staff this and a guy in a shirt, who I assume was the manager apologised and said he would bring some mozzarella and bacon. He brought out grated mozzarella and a piece of bacon in a bowl. What was I supposed to do with that? Melt the cheese in the palms of my hands? The steak was dry, there was no sauce and the fact it wasn’t what I ordered as the staff sent the wrong order to the kitchen just ruined the experience. If you want decent food visit the Golden Slipper.”

  “This was a super fun place for my first pub experience! The guide at my hostel recommended this place to me for their Yorkshire pudding, and it did not disappoint. I got their Sunday roast, which was super good. Unfortunately a few items were out when I was ordering (18:00), but the staff were very attentive with checking in with me to make sure that the substitutions were okay with me. The roast was delicious, and the sticky toffee pudding was quite good too. It was less sweet than I was expecting, but coming from an American palette that may just be me. 😅 The atmosphere was super fun and cozy, and I would love to come back!”

  “🧙‍♀️🪄After exploring York’s medieval streets, the Shambles, the Roman Walls and the riverside, we stopped at the Hole in the Wall for lunch. We ordered a selection of dishes which was delicious however the highlight was their special traditional menu LARGE YORKSHIRE PUDDING filled with roast beef, vegetables and rich gravy. Excellent food, friendly atmosphere and a perfect end to a day in historic York.”

  “A great place to gather with friends, have food & drinks. Many locals gathered here. We ordered the Yorkshire pudding, Loaded fries with pulled pork, wings and cauliflower. It was too much for 2 persons! But the food were good 👍 the staff served us the drinks pretty fast, food takes a little bit more time to arrive. It gets quite crowded after 7pm+..Overall, a good experience at a local pub 😁”

  “I can't even begin on how much I loved this place. Best Roast Beef Yorkshire pudding ever, best ambience, best staff. Was the second best meal I had while in UK on holidays for 6 weeks. Prices were very reasonable also.”

  “Brilliant. Went for the Sunday Roast and was greeted with a warm welcome and a tasty feast. The gravy was rich and flavorful, Yorkshire pudding was enormous, and the sides and prime rib portions were generous and delicious. Service was top notch and the best I've experienced in all the UK, they treated me just as kindly as if I were a regular customer.”
