About The Mitre
The Mitre is a pub on Shipton Road, set on the outskirts of York with a straightforward walk-in format. The Sunday carvery is the focal point of the week, pairing roast beef or turkey with a help-yourself section for potatoes and vegetables, and a standard plate comes with two slices of meat. Karaoke takes over every second Friday, and Saturday afternoons tend to draw a quieter crowd, leaving room to walk in without competing for a table. Dogs are welcome inside, and the bar staff step out to the picnic tables when the weather allows.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers are split on the food, with the Sunday carvery drawing the most detail. One found the beef and turkey overcooked and drying, the Yorkshire puddings rubbery and the cauliflower cheese left sitting. Another praised ample, well presented meals and a server who supplied colouring pencils for a child. Karaoke on alternate Fridays earned a great night, though one reviewer found it too loud to hear anything.

“Pub on outskirts of York serving Sunday Carvery. Bit of a wait whilst barmaid was called in from the outside picnic tables. We were from Tyneside and she struggled terribly to understand us, did not get off to a great start. My friend and I had the standard (two slices of meat) carvery, help yourself to the potatoes and vegetables etc. I choose beef and turkey, both of which were slightly overcooked and drying out. The roast potatoes were well charred! The Yorkshire puddings were rubbery and the cauliflower cheese had sat for a while. There are a lot of Sunday pub lunches around but unfortunately this was a little below average standard. No thanks or good byes on our leaving. For people who were obvious visitors to the area this was more than disappointing. Will drive past in future, sorry , make your own judgementd.”
