Quick info
About Desi Yew Tree
Desi Yew Tree is a pub on Pool St in Wolverhampton that serves Nepalese-style food, with a large kitchen window that lets diners watch the cooks at work. The menu centres on sizzlers, including a large one that brings chicken tikka, sheesh kebab, chicken wings, lamb chops and fish pakora to the table, and a boneless version. Naga chicken and Katmandu chicken sit among the curries, and naan comes in desi special, cheese, garlic and butter styles. The large tables leave space between diners, which suits groups. Screens are visible from every table, so football can be followed from any seat.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the mixed grill and sizzlers, with the naan close behind and several singling it out as excellent. Butter chicken, Naga chicken, Katmandu chicken and the Nepalese or masala fries also draw favourable mentions, and one reviewer calls the butter chicken a standout. Reviewers repeatedly describe the food as piping hot and the service as fast and friendly, and several say the prices are low. Screens visible from every table suit football, and the large tables and decor get compliments. The caveats are mixed. One reviewer found the veg Manchurian sweet when ordered spicy, and the Nepalese fries and seafood grill seemed to use a lot of food colouring, with the seafood grill bland. Another found the lamb chops tender but short on meat, and the naan thin. One waited around an hour on a Saturday night, and a few note it gets very busy at peak times, with one suggesting booking. One reviewer found the beer selection basic, mainly standard lagers and Guinness. Several describe being seated within minutes despite the crowd, with drinks and food arriving soon after.

“Me and my partner went on a Saturday night and it was really busy. A bit overwhelmed when entering, but when sat it was really comfortable and it had a good vibe. The food is amazing and really reasonably priced. Our whole meal with 2 alcoholic drinks cost us just over £60. Definitely want to return and check out more of the menu.”

“This is easily my top recommendation for a Desi Grill pub in Wolves. The owners have done a fantastic job with the interior design, making great use of the space to create a welcoming atmosphere. Unlike many pubs that are scaling back on sports, they have screens visible from every table, making it the perfect place to watch the football. The turnaround time for food and drinks is impressively fast. Highly recommended for the food, the service, and the vibe.”

“Tried Desi Yew Tree today. Overall experience was mixed. The veg Manchurian was ordered spicy but turned out quite sweet. The Nepalese fries tasted good, though they seemed to have a lot of food colouring. The seafood grill was a bit bland and also appeared to use quite a lot of colouring. On the positive side, the naan was excellent, and the chicken curry and veg chilli noodles were decent. Service was good and very fast, which we appreciated. With a bit less colouring and better balance of flavours, the food could be much better.”

“PLEASE PLEASE don't let the outside surroundings put you off, because you'll be MISSING an Absolutely FANTASTIC place, inside the decor is really well presented and very clean. The tables are LARGE so no cramped elbows. Food is to die for and well presented, added bonus the prices are exceptionally low. plates are warmed before serving. The kitchens has a large window where you can watch the cooks at work.”
