About Holdens Codsall Station Pub
Holdens Codsall Station Pub is a pub in Wolverhampton on the platform at Codsall station, housed in the old waiting room, ticket office and station master's house. Trains pull in and leave in view, and they stop hourly. Railway memorabilia is displayed inside, so the building's past as a station is part of the room. At the bar, the Holdens beers include Golden Glow, and the food centres on cobs, served hot with gravy or cold. The Ploughman's Lunch platter pairs cheddar, ham, pork pie and salad with a buttered cob. A small garden at the back is a spot to watch the trains go by. The conservatory can be booked for private functions, which suits groups.

Customer Review Summary
Holdens beers draw the most praise, with reviewers naming Golden Glow, Black Country Special and a Special Ale one visitor calls the best they have had since moving to the area. Cobs come close behind, both hot with gravy and cold, alongside pork pies and sausage rolls. One diner describes a generous platter of thick ham, slabs of cheddar and a buttered cob, and a regular returns on Fridays for the chilli and chips with habanero sauce. Several mention a friendly welcome from staff and railway memorabilia in the old waiting room. The one sour note comes from a reviewer who, after a late train, was told they were too late for a drink. They then heard the last-orders bell, and when they questioned it they got a sheepish look and no comment. Others close on the same picture: a seat in the small garden, a pint in hand, watching trains pull in and out of the platform beside the pub.

“Golden Glow, Black Country Special & enough refreshing Holdens drinks along with others - IPA's etc - Nice tasty Cob's to eat and more. Customers can also use Conservatory for booked Private Functions (up to 30 people), you can also mingle with other regular friendly Station customers too. - there is also some outside tables and seating too. Offers on some cask ales/Beers around £3.25 on offer Tuesdays, also can collect stamps/ tokens over different weeks after drinking/collecting 8 pint Stamps you get a free pint on the one ale. Old Station Ticket & Booking office, Parcel Store etc Designed to a strict/restricted plan (as Building is from 1800's) by local Architect Robert Clowseley (unfortunately now deceased), formerly of Bilbrook & Lapley villages. Also the very good staff look after you well, with food & drinks - oh and you can also see the trains pulling up and leaving as Pub is basically on Codsall train stations platform. The Bull public house, Love & liquor micro/midi bar, Chippy, Cash Wallbank's, Restaurant etc are just up the road in the village centre.”

“Really friendly welcome and a great atmosphere. Plenty of choices on the menu and the food was excellent. We will definitely be going back there and would recommend a visit to everyone.”

“Phoned at 3-40pm to ask if they were rammed and what time they finished serving food. Tables available and last food orders at 5pm. Into the car and then into the bar. Ordered our drinks and meals at 4-15pm. Decided on no alcohol and both ordered the Ploughman's Lunch. Generous would be an understatement. On each platter, next to the salad and the pork pie (tasty) was three slabs, not slices, but slabs of Cheddar and three thick slices of quality ham. Not wet and transparent but good ham with a proper ham taste. Plus a buttered cob. After making up and eating a cheese, ham and salad cob the rest of the meal was a knife and fork job. Carol couldn't manage everything there and then. She had to take two slabs of cheese home. General hum of chatter at the bar and other tables lent a country pub atmosphere to the place. All in all a great spur of the moment decision resulted in a lovely afternoon out. We'll be going back.”

“After a lovely birthday meal in Birmingham, we headed back to the Station and planned to finish our evening with a drink, just as we’d started in the very place a few hours earlier. The train was a few minutes late arriving and the man serving told us we were too late. No worries we thought, they must have stopped serving at 10:30pm, so we stepped outside to order a taxi. Whilst waiting, we heard the bell go, so I popped back in to double check if we had missed last orders and was told yes, we stop at 11pm.. I was surprised because it was prior to 11am (and the bell being rung) when we arrived, but when I mentioned this, I just got a sheepish look and no comment. Rather than make a fuss, we just waited for our taxi and then went home. We’d had a lovely evening and it started so well. We love the station and often pop in for a drink and food, but this experience has left a really sour taste for us. Such a shame….”
