About Cowper Arms
On Station Rd in Welwyn, Cowper Arms is a pub with a kitchen, a restaurant dining area and a bar serving real ale and wines. The roast menu offers beef, lamb and a mixed roast of beef, ham and chicken. Vegetarians can order a nut roast, which comes with a yorkshire, roast potatoes and vegetables. The vegetables served with the roasts are home cooked, and reduced portions are available for smaller appetites. Small sharing plates are also on the menu for guests who want something lighter than a full main. Visitors can sit down for lunch or dinner, or stop at the bar for a drink. Dogs are welcome inside.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is what reviewers return for, with the beef singled out as perfectly medium rare and the lamb described as falling apart. Diners mention generous portions, home cooked vegetables, loads of gravy and a mixed roast of beef, ham and chicken, while a few note smaller portion options for lighter appetites. Close behind, the veggie "nut roast" earns praise as not an afterthought, though one reviewer points out the only vegetarian main is actually a risotto. Desserts, the small sharing plates and the beer selection also get positive mentions. Dog owners describe staff who greet their dogs warmly, with outdoor seating available. Staff are repeatedly called friendly. The main complaint is dressing: one reviewer's undressed hullomi salad came with a small pot of English mustard and another of mayonnaise, and another would prefer gravy served in a jug rather than already on the plate.

“Always a good restaurant to go to. Every time we have been here the food and staff are first class. We had a Sunday Roast today, and as a big eater l just managed to finish it!!! Extremely good value”

“Spacious venue with pleasant atmosphere and friendly, efficient service. Sunday menu is all roasts, but if you have less of an appetite they offer reduced portion options and you can put together even smaller meals from starters and/or the children's menu. Large selection of desserts. Note to vegetarians: the only main-menu option is described as a nut roast but is in fact a risotto. It comes with 5 different vegetables, though, all excellent.”

“Excellent Sunday lunch at the Cowper Arms. Very generous plates of fresh "home cooked" food, really liked the proper servings of vegetables. (Good to know: they offer a "modest" option for the smaller appetite, still generous!). Desserts were delicious. Friendly, efficient service and very reasonable prices. Only thing I would request is to serve the gravy in a jug so you can add what you want, rather than have it already on the plate. Will definitely eat here again!”

“Absolutely delicious veggie roast lunch. The "nut roast" was succulent and accompanied by a light yorkshire, crisp and fluffy roast spuds plus a great selection of vegetables. For once, I did not feel like the veggie option was an afterthought. Highly recommended.”

“Love this place, absolutely superb roasts, super dog friendly (appreciative spaniel for proof). Great little spot with plenty of outdoor seating to sit with pooch in the shade (dogs welcome inside too). Staff are lovely and greet the dogs very nicely. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.”
