About The Millstream
The Millstream is a pub at 88 Port Vale in Hertford, with a large beer garden and conservatory seating, so groups and regulars have more than one place to settle. Benches and hanging baskets line the front of the building. The kitchen cooks a vegetarian nut roast and a burger served with sides, and sticky toffee pudding is on the dessert list. A gin offer runs alongside the drinks. Orders are placed at the bar, and a service charge is added to the bill. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
The complaints are mostly about service and value. Reviewers describe staff standing around chatting and blocking the way, a phone call where a roast booking was brushed off as too busy, and being refused the garden for smoking while others used it. Two say the food was only fine for the money, with a service charge added to bar-ordered meals. One says a manager stopped serving them at last orders after serving another group moments earlier.

“We had a lovely takeaways to celebtate our Sons birthday. What can I say, the food was amazing. The steak cooked to perfection. The starters were so generous portions. I would highly recommended this restaurant to everyone.”

“I had to leave a review as the Millstream is amazing, a gorgeous pub with an amazing garden and the best friendly staff ❤️ I would highly recommend everything on the menu - but most especially the Sunday roasts 😍 absolutely to die for. Can’t wait to bring everyone I know here to enjoy. I’ll be back pronto @the Millstream. Thanks for an amazing Sunday xxx”

“If I lived in the area, I think I would be at the Millstream every single night. The huge beer garden was stunning, as was the food. I thought under £20 for a huge burger and 3 sides was really a bargain. The 2 for £10 gins was a great deal as well and the staff were super friendly. Take me back!”

“EDIT: I'm not going to email to get the service charge back, that's not really the point. To be clear, we didn't order drinks with the food, those were ordered separately. Once you include a round of drinks it's £60+. Yes it does clearly state the price on the menu, but the quality of the food you have to find out for yourself - so the argument 'well the prices are right there on the menu' doesn't really make sense. It's not terrible, but it's not that great either and just wasn't worth what we paid. Don't just take my word for it, read some of the other reviews as well. --- This is one of my favourite pubs in Hertford in terms of pure atmosphere etc., but the food side of things is disappointing. Put simply I should not be shelling out £50 for a bit of just ok pub grub for two people, and the decision to add a service charge to your bill when you have to go and order at the bar (and therefore don't see it on your bill) is just taking the mick. This isn't a restaurant and we're not in London. So won't be eating here from now on. Real shame cos it's a nice pub.”
