About The Watering Trough
The Watering Trough is a pub in Walsall at 90 Ablewell St, run by a landlady after a closure and reopening. Up a flight of stairs, a large outdoor area is lit and heated, and it has a second bar of its own with music playing. Inside, the rock bar plays metal, and a DJ plays RnB. A pool table sits among plenty of tables and seating, which gives groups room to spread out. The main bar is right by the entrance.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the weekend music and lively crowd. One calls it a rock bar, another says it plays metal at the weekend, and a third mentions a DJ playing RnB. Close behind are the staff, described as friendly, good and great, and one regular says they always meet someone new on a night out. Drinks are called reasonably priced, with creative offers, and one visitor was chuffed to find a favourite brew on tap. Others describe a pub that reopened with a new landlady and feels refreshing and welcoming. The large outside area up the stairs, lit and heated, with a second bar and plenty of seating, also gets a mention. Complaints are fewer but specific. The bar sits right by the entrance, making it hard to get in and out when busy on weekends. One group arrived for a booked deal of unlimited crisps and bread and butter to find it cancelled without a call. Their later cocktails tasted alcohol free, though management changed the drinks and gave free shots.

“We had just entered the pub, wanted to look around and were heading towards a table when the woman behind the bar rudely forced us to leave, saying that they do not have a free toilet. We were decently dressed and did not look like homeless people, so it felt like our nationality might have been the real issue. I do not recommend this place. Other visitors even tried to stand up for us, which shows how inappropriate the staff’s behaviour was. The experience was very unpleasant and upsetting. I have never encountered such treatment in England before.”

“I was chuffed to find one of my favourite minds on tap and enjoyed the friendly feel to the place. Pubs with a pool table are not for me, but that is just personal choice on my part. Good service from the staff and I would pop in agsin when in the area.”

“How do I describe perfection in Walsall town center. I grew up round this watering hole. So did the last 4 generations of my family. I can say is that Angie is absolutely killing it there now and rocking up the town to a new vibrant and lively venue. If you want a great night out that is loud proud and safe this is the place for you. Everyone there is friendly and full of life, go check it out. That is my recommendation anyway.”

“I have been using this establishment for many years. It closed recently and reopened a couple of weeks ago with a new landlady. She and the pub are refreshing and welcoming and a must visit venue whilst walking through a historic town!”
