About St. Matthew’s Hall
St. Matthew’s Hall is a pub in Walsall on Lichfield St, set in a building from the 1830s with atrium seating. Inside, the brick-style interior is hung with large pennies from the ceiling, which gives the room its most unusual feature. The bar pours real ales and guest ales, so the draught selection can change from one visit to the next. The kitchen serves British food, and breakfast is on the menu as well.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the service and the drink prices at this Wetherspoon, describing friendly, quick table service even when the pub is busy after football matches. Real ales, guest ales and a wide choice of beers, spirits and cocktails come up repeatedly, and one reviewer describes a late lunch of a fried halloumi-style cheese wrap, chips and onion rings with pints for a low total. Close behind, several praise the food, with one noting breakfast and a coffee machine that always works, and another saying the food has improved over the years. The building draws its own comment, with a classic brick interior, large pennies hanging from the ceiling and comfortable seating, and one mentions a beer garden party. The main complaint is the staircase to the toilets, which two reviewers call worrying or lethal. One adds that the chips portion could be bigger, and another found the pizza edible but not made with love. One reviewer wished there were music.

“Fabulous local in the downtown core. Punters are friendly. Staff is amazing. Food was delicious. The building is outrageous. You really need to see it to believe it.”

“Amazing experience. My cousin and his boyfriend went here for their 10 year anniversary and they really enjoyed the service and meals and drinks. No music which was a shame but overall they had a good time when they had the party outside in the beer garden dancing to dance dance dance in your underpants! aha See you soon!!”

“I visited St Matthew’s Hall Wetherspoon with a group of friends after watching the England football match and we had a fantastic time. The service was excellent from start to finish. The staff were friendly, efficient and made sure we were served quickly, even though it was busy after the game. The drinks were great value with a wide selection of beers, spirits, cocktails and soft drinks to choose from. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, making it the perfect place to relax, celebrate and catch up with friends after the match. The pub was clean, well-organised and had plenty of seating, creating a comfortable environment for everyone. Overall, we had a brilliant evening and really enjoyed our visit. If you’re looking for a friendly pub with excellent service, great drinks and a fantastic atmosphere, I would definitely recommend St Matthew’s Hall Wetherspoon. I’ll certainly be back!”
