About The Grand Junction Arms
The Grand Junction Arms is a Victorian canal-side pub on Bulbourne in Tring, set on the Grand Union Canal. The original horseshoe-shaped bar has been reinstated and the open fireplace restored, and the dining room seats up to 80. In the garden, a covered dining terrace has its own bar and a large fire pit, giving groups and couples a place to eat beside the water. The menu runs through British pub classics, including a mushroom burger and a Sunday roast with beef, pork or chicken, served with Yorkshire pudding and unlimited roast potatoes and gravy. Plum crumble is among the desserts. Food is ordered at the bar, and the drinks list includes craft beer. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Diners return most for the Sunday roast, with reviewers praising the unlimited roast potatoes and gravy, the pork, chicken and beef options, and an excellent Yorkshire pudding. Close behind are the desserts, including plum crumble, chocolate brownie and chocolate fondue, plus a mushroom burger, scallops and crab toast, and a good beer selection. Several describe a warm welcome, friendly staff and a canalside garden with a deck, and one party of ten was seated without fuss. Service is praised as fast on a busy Father's Day, though another reviewer found it slow and chaotic with fries like crisps.

“First visit here. Lovely setting and great potential. Meal was very mixed - burgers were deemed ‘good’ and chips ‘quite nice’. Why then serve slaw in an egg cup sized vessel and only half fill it? Such a cheap inexpensive thing to get right as it was actually tasty. Pea and asparagus risotto on the other hand was poor. No evidence of any peas and was not how risotto should ever be made - was basically buttery rice with some stock thrown in. We were not charged for the risotto which was something. However the overriding issue here was the fact that people are allowed to smoke in a restaurant area (the main restaurant upstairs was not open). This was utterly disgusting as cigarette smoke wafts across your table as you ate. We were allowed to move upstairs and sit there on our own but it kind of defeated the reason for us going out to have dinner overlooking the canal. There needs to be much more thought and attention to detail given at this place if they are to attract and retain a healthy custom. Feels like they are currently just going through the motions.”

“We thought we'd pop in for a meal with our grandson after a walk along the canal. We found a table, no 60 and sat down with the menu. There were dirty dessert dishes on the table and it hadn't been wiped, My son ordered our meal at the bar and then they both came back with drinks. There were a lot of wasps attracted by the dirty dishes and one landed in my grandsons drink. He went and changed it. After some time I had to call someone over to clear the table The meal took quite a while to come out. 2 Haddock and chips 1 roast beef dinner. My son asked where the curry sauces were and was told they had run out. This should have been mentioned to him when ordering as they would have had something else. My dinner Came out. I was asked if there was anything else I wanted and I said yes my roast potatoes and gravy. I started on my dinner and it was luke warm if that. The waiter apologised and took it away, in the meantime I had to start on the dish of potatoes and gravy, both of these were almost cold too and the gravy was luke warm with a layer of grease on Top My dinner eventually came back out not much warmer. The beef was over cooked and certainly.not medium rare, and by this time I was giving up on the meal as it was not enjoyable. The batter on their fish was very soggy and the mushy peas very dry. My grandson said it was the worst fish he'd ever had. The onion rings were a joke hardly any onion in them and all stuck together certainly not worth £5.20 each I could buy a whole bag of onions for less None of these were worth what he paid which was over £90.23 and my son was almost not asked if he wanted to gift a tree but this amount was taken off his card. He also had to ask for a receipt My grandson also ordered an extra portion of chips as there weren't that many and ordered a dessert which he paid £12 for. The table needed to be cleared, so . The waitress came and asked if we had finished, not did we enjoy our meal. I think she could see from the amount we left that we were all disappointed This meal was supposed to be a treat to celebrate my grandsons new job and also to save me cooking. The food was certainly not worth what my son or grandson had to pay.. certainly won't be revisiting”

“We stopped here for some food and a pint because they had a large outdoor dining area. The service was very slow and chaotic and the food was poor. My fries were more like crisps! We wont be recommending this place to anyone”
