  “Went to the Hankridge Arms coming home from Cornwall, what a lovely find! Greeted by Liv and was told to sit anywhere we like, as we hadn't booked, we found a table luckily, it was lively, but not too busy. The 'new' menu is varied, but not overbearing, we had the king prawns and mushrooms to start to share, followed by the Caribbean Chicken Supreme, wow, that was tasty as!! And my partner had the all day breakfast, fresh, fulling and hearty! Suffice to say, this is a great find, and we'll be sure to tell our friends and family if passing by Taunton. Well done all 👌”

  “Probably the best review I've ever posted. Fantastic pub with excellent staff . The food is exceptional. I've spent the whole week here due to work and we've a little diamond in the ruff as this location is on the edge of Taunton. . I would 100% recommend this place as a stop off to your trip to Cornwall if your traveling from up north as there is a Travelodge next door 😁”

  “This pub is a grade 2 listed building from a time which was extremely important for the development of the United Kingdom. It was a Reeve court in the 17th century. Historically important. The building is still beautiful and well decorated. The staff were friendly, there were only 2 people serving but it was quiet. That was about as good as it got. The food..... for what they're charging. Its not right. On the menu there was spaghetti with prawns, and olive oil, garlic, chilli flakes, and fresh rocket. Sounds nice right? 40 minutes later. I got overcooked underseasoned spaghetti with about 4 prawns, cooked rocket (which i think may have spinach come to think of it) all dripping in Thai sweet chilli sauce. But its ok cause they charged me nearly £19 for it. My daughter asked for the classic spaghetti. Basically the same but without prawns. She didn't want chilli flakes so she got plain spaghetti and overcooked rocket. For £12. As a part italian, for them not to salt the pasta water is a sin. With 2 alcoholic drinks no dessert no starters just olives and some cheap bread for 4 people the bill was £86. And only 1 meal was edible and that was my sons burger. They are clearly working to a budget. That's ok a lot of places are. But the chef cannot cook. They do not know how to take basic ingredients and make something nice. They don't know how to season, they clearly don't know how to time food being cooked and to be fair they are probably understaffed. I understand a couple of years ago the pub got taken over by new management and that previously the pub was applauded for its food. I urge the current owners to rethink. Sack the chef and get a properly trained one. Get another person to help them. And stop buying cheap ingredients. We ate what we could cause we were hungry and had been driving for 2 1/2 hours but we raided sainsburys for dessert to have a hotel bedroom picnic.”

  “What a great find just off the M5. A really warm welcome from Mikey on arrival, menus with us before we had even sat down. Water for our dog and a good selection of drinks. We had a couple of salads and 2 kids meals, all were great. Unfortunately the cheesecake was sold out but as it was hot, we all had ice cream. 3 scoops each - delicious. I ordered 2 vanilla and 1 strawberry for my 7-year old instead of 2 vanilla and 1 chocolate - whoops! Entirely my fault but no quibbles at all, the lovely waitress just exchanged it for what my son wanted and it saved me some earache for the remainder of our 4 hour car journey. Thank you to the team at the Hankridge Arms! So much better than a service station meal and great value. Circa £80 for a family of 4 for a main and dessert plus a drink each.”

  “First thing to add, it was mentioned that this is now under new ownership. We found this as somewhere to stop when driving to Cornwall. On arrival, we were met by the manager and very friendly staff, the pub is nice and traditional inside, away from the retail park. Good choice of beer and the drinks were reasonable. I had the cobb salad, good portion and very fresh with avocado, bacon and chicken. Followed by a lovely soft jam sponge and decent custard. I would recommend and give it a go. TBH, If we had read some of the old reviews, probably not visited, but the new owners seem to be turning it round.”

  “We came across this pub off the back of a Google review and we’re glad we did! Just off the M5 dog and child friendly. The lady behind the bar on Good Friday made us so welcome and looked after us so well!”

  “We had a great lunch here last week, delicious pie of the day! An extremely warm welcome and although they were busy and we hadn't booked, we didn't feel like we'd been forgotten. Sarah and Bev were great. Bonus that it's dog friendly.”

  “Having booked online for lunch on 3 Jan for a family of four, I received confirmation by email only to get another message about an hour later saying ‘booking deleted’. No explanation. My attempts to phone the pub failed as no one picked up the phone on Saturday night or Sunday morning and there was no response to my email. I finally found a Facebook post saying the pub was closed for a week (no dates!). Judging by the FB comments I was not the only one who thought they had booked a table! I can’t comment on the food but the lack of customer care and forethought is enough to persuade me to avoid eating here.”

  “Nice pub close to the M5. My beef burger was a bit burnt so i had to remove small sections but nothing crazy. Desserts were amazing with the homemade cheesecake as my favourite. The brownie is also good. Familiar environment woth a nice outdoors area for the summertime”
