Customer Review Summary
The Sunday roast draws the warmest praise, with reviewers singling out the roast pork, the roast potatoes and plenty of veg and gravy. One group says they were squeezed in at the last minute. Friendly, attentive waiting staff are the other recurring positive, with several describing a warm welcome and a server who kept several tables looking after well. The steak pie is called excellent, and a few mention a relaxed, cosy atmosphere. Food is where opinions split. One diner's medium steak arrived closer to well done and the fish was over-crisp. Another found the chicken thigh starters overcooked, and a third got sweaty grated cheese in place of parmesan shavings. One reviewer left their lunch uneaten and had it taken off the bill, and another says the Guinness is poured too quickly. One booked party reports being left standing and ignored by waiting staff on arrival, and another describes dirty outdoor tables strewn with cigarette ends. On a busy Sunday, some roast and dessert options had run out. One diner had a burger changed to their liking at no extra charge.

“Lovely food and good choices in a cosy relaxed pub. Being a weekday, there wasn’t many staff, however maybe another staff member could’ve helped, being the summer holidays but the young girl that served us was very polite and helpful and seemed to be taking care of everyone, doing a good job. Unfortunately don’t remember her name but she had brown short hair in a plait. Definitely deserves the recognition. Would’ve left a tip if we had cash!”

“100% improvement on our last visit which was several years ago. Nice varied selection of food including vegetarian and seafood options. Food arrived hot, well presented and tasted great. Staff friendly and nice quiet atmosphere on Tue evening.”

“Very willing and pleasant young staff, but in need of training. Excellent sounding menu but reality didn't live up to it. Parmesan shavings became half teaspoon of sweaty grated cheese and there was little "heirloom" about the tomato salad. The steak pie however was apparently excellent .”

“From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the waiting staff and promptly shown to our table. Our drinks order was taken quickly, followed shortly afterwards by our food order, making for an excellent start to the evening. The food itself was somewhat inconsistent. Some elements were executed very well, while others fell slightly short of expectations. My steak, which was ordered medium, was closer to well done, and the fish was slightly over-crisp. That said, neither issue significantly detracted from the meal, as the flavours throughout were enjoyable and clearly well thought out. The standout aspect of our visit, however, was our blonde waitress, whose name I unfortunately didn't catch. Despite looking after several tables, she remained attentive, professional, and genuinely invested in ensuring every guest had a positive experience. From the moment our food arrived, she checked on us regularly without being intrusive, demonstrating a level of care and hospitality that is becoming increasingly rare. Her exceptional service had a real impact on our overall experience and is a credit to both herself and the wider team. Although the food wasn't perfect on this occasion, I appreciate that it was a busy Friday evening, and I suspect this may have contributed to the inconsistencies. It certainly wouldn't discourage me from returning, and I look forward to visiting again. The pub itself was immaculate—clean, well-presented, and tastefully decorated throughout. The air-conditioned interior provided a welcoming escape from the heat, while the attractive bar area and overall décor created a warm and inviting atmosphere. Overall, despite a few minor issues with the food, the outstanding customer service and excellent atmosphere made for a very enjoyable visit. I would happily return and would recommend giving it a try.”

“The Cross Keys is a lovely traditional English pub. It's welcoming and friendly. Staff are lovely. We often go in for a Guinness which I have to say is poured too quickly. There is an art to pouring a good Guinness. This week we made the mistake of having lunch. What can I say other than it was awful. I didn't eat any of my lunch and thankfully it was knocked off the bill. Sadly the food let's this lovely pub down. We won't be eating there again but we'll still call in for an odd Guinness or 2.”
