About Perkin Warbeck

Perkin Warbeck is a very large pub on East St in Taunton, nicknamed the "tardis". A seating area at the back looks out over the Minster tower. The pub is open daily and serves breakfast in the morning. Lunch and dinner bring gourmet burgers, freshly made pizzas and small plates such as ramen bowls. On the drinks side, rotating taps and cask ales sit alongside craft beers, gins and a range of ciders. Customers order pints and food through the Wetherspoon app instead of queuing at the bar. Tea and Lavazza coffee come with free refills all day, every day.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers come mainly for the drinks, praising a wide choice of real ales, craft cans and ciders, plus tap events that often support local breweries. Staff earn repeated credit for working hard and keeping on top of a huge, busy pub, and several call the atmosphere friendly. Food draws mixed reactions. Chicken wings, ramen bowls, cheesy chips and breakfast are liked, with breakfast called good value, while others describe dry, microwaved meals and oily onion rings. Pizza draws the sharpest complaints. One parent reports a burnt pizza that upset their autistic son, a meal arriving very late in a half-full room, a cold dining area, and a staff member asking their four-year-old disabled child whether the drinks were his. Another reviewer says the pizza dough seemed undercooked and fears a friend may become ill. A few note that pints can take a while at weekends, especially when ordered through the app. One reviewer suggests sitting out at the back, where the Minster tower is visible and a peregrine falcon nests.

“First things first, the food. If you go into any Weatherspoons expecting fine dining, you have gone to the wrong place. It is well known for their dry food, cooked by Chef Mike(rowave) that leaves a lot to be desired. If you must have food to help with the coming hangover, you should probably go for the small plate meals. Chicken wings and Ramen bowls have been consistently good, but that is personal taste. Their deserts are always wonderful, but again, it is hard to mess up a microwaved meal. As for drinks, which is probably what you are here for, you can't go wrong. They always have some sort of event going on with their tap drinks, often supporting local breweries. The range of different drinks can't be beat, there is something for everyone. They are as fast as they can be, pints can only be poured so fast so sadly it can take a while at weekends, especially if you order on the app. Avoid sitting near the kitchen, as the staff can be very loud, it makes it hard to hear what the people around you say. Overall, I love a good night out here, just don't get your hopes up regarding the food.”

“the best spoons in the world, however… i was disturbed by the food presentation of the pizza and i hope my friend doesn’t get salmonella from the undercooked dough.”

“My daughter's and I met here for breakfast before going Christmas shopping. The food is good value here. A lovely start to the day. £14 for 3 breakfasts and a cuppa tea.”

“I've been to this particular restaurant a few times and others too as my autistic son will only eat their pizza. Yesterday was an awful experience at Taunton. Our food was over 40 minutes late and I had to go looking for someone to find out what was going on. The place was only half full. My son's pizza was burnt quite a bit which triggered him. I had gone to speak with someone and when I came back someone had taken our drinks away that we hardly drank. I reported this and the guy who cleans tables said he asked my son whose 4 and disabled if the drinks were his. He doesn't have the capacity to understand questions like this from a stranger. The whole experience was just awful. My turkey dinner was a lot less on portion than usual which was disappointing. There's definitely other weatherspoons we prefer going to. Oh and the place was freezing so eating with our coats on.”
