About The Bathpool Inn

The Bathpool Inn is a pub in Taunton at 102 Bridgwater Rd, built around a central bar with the space divided into smaller areas rather than one large room. A separate bar area and restaurant area sit within it, and the bar area is the quieter of the two. A large room to the right of the pub is used for big group bookings, which suits parties that want a space of their own. The kitchen serves a Sunday roast dinner with a vegetarian option, and staff check allergy requirements and pass them on to the kitchen. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the food and the attentive, friendly staff, with allergy handling singled out repeatedly: a server who knew the menu well let a dairy-allergic diner enjoy dessert, and another team checked allergies and told the kitchen. Roast dinners, fish and chips, a very large burger, baked camembert mushrooms and a tender ribeye get specific mentions, along with a sticky toffee pudding described as delicious. Several say it was busy yet they were able to talk freely, and the beer garden, cold beer and ample parking come up too. Last-minute bookings for larger parties were accommodated. The complaints are about the kitchen and value. One diner's pork belly arrived without crackling or chives in the mash, with very fatty pork, and was returned and removed from the bill. Others found portions small for the cost, the ribeye chewy with fat, the peppercorn sauce bitter, meat overcooked and dry, and some starters unavailable. One reviewer found the children's burger too hard for a baby, and one mentions table cleanliness. A large group waited a while for mains after starters.

“Honestly, it was brilliant coming here. We met a friend halfway and I’m so glad we booked because it was really busy. My partner has a dairy allergy, and the way the waitress, Izzy, handled it was absolutely amazing. She knew the menu inside out and even recommended a sauce he’s normally not allowed and for the first time in a long time, he actually got to enjoy a dessert with everyone. Her knowledge and understanding were fantastic. I’d highly recommend this place; it made for a really lovely evening.”

“Starters 8 options 3 not available Big portions balance of vegetables to meat/fish poor. Meat over cooked so a bit dry, potato dry, flavour okay. Some groups very loud in restraunt area. Bar area quieter. Nice inside comfortable seating. Weekdays better when not so busy. Teenagers curled up feet hanging over sides of chairs not great.”

“Lunch today with a friend. Great starr checking for allergies, letting kitchen know, very helpful. Food ordered, Moroccan chicken skewers with feta sald & beetroot tortilla - absolutely lovely. Unfortunately, my friends meal was terrible. Ordered the slow roasted pork belly, crackling, bon bon, chive mash, tenderstem. No chives in mash, not creamy, no crackling & very fatty unseared pork. Photo added is the plate on arrival showing the initial hunt for promised ingredients. Young man serving was a credit to the pub as polite, professional and apologetic. Its the chef who needs to apologise. The meal was not eaten, but returned & item removed from bill. Such a shame as we will not return. Yes, an offer was made to order another meal, but went you want to eat at the same time it's not really practical.”

“We went on a Sunday lunchtime as a group of 5. The restaurant was busy but staff were attentive and we were able to talk freely amongst ourselves without feeling overheard. The waiter was excellent, he was attentive, polite and nothing was too much trouble. Great service. The food was excellent. One of us had the vegetarian option, the rest of us had roast dinner. We also had some delicious deserts. Absolutely beautiful food. Coffee was very good as well. After the meal we sat out in the beer garden. It was lovely weather, so a perfect end to a great lunch. Thank you.”

“We drove 200 miles to celebrate my birthday. We managed to book a table here last minute and it didnt disappoint. The food was great. We was served by a young lady who was friendly and very pleasant. We didnt wait long for our food. Considering how busy it was. The food was fantastic. We are looking to move down to this area and next time we come down. We will definitely eat there again”
