Quick info
About The Hampshire Bowman
The Hampshire Bowman is a pub on Dundridge Ln in Southampton, where real ales and ciders are served from barrels behind the bar. Local beers and a cider menu sit alongside them, about 12 beers and ciders in all. The kitchen puts a venison burger on the menu, and ham, egg and chips comes with a choice of homemade chunky chips or fries. A Sunday roast is served with Yorkshire pudding, and there is a veggie option for those who skip the meat. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Burgers come up most, with one diner describing loads of melting cheese and others singling out the Bowman burger and a venison burger. Close behind are the sirloin steak, cooked medium rare and served with chunky chips that one table called the best homemade chips ever, and the hot honey chicken salad. Others praise a Sunday roast with a standout Yorkshire pudding, fish and chips, and a duck salad that one reviewer highly recommends. Real ales on barrels behind the bar and a wide cider list, including Bee Sting, draw repeated mention, as do friendly staff and a large garden with plenty of seating, water bowls for dogs and space for children to run around. The caveats are modest. One reviewer found the atmosphere flat, with an air conditioner hum and dated, worn decor, and another found the actual menu less comprehensive than the sample online. Groups report being looked after well, with one table of eight getting all its food out together.

“We arrived at this idyllic setting and it was one of our friends first ever visit. We were seated promptly and the staff were friendly, attentive and made our visit pleasurable. Our food arrived promptly although the place was getting increasingly busy throughout our stay. The food was of the highest order. Although very busy, we were never rushed and were attended to in good time. For the three of us it was very reasonably priced as well. My friend is taking his wife there in the near future and I shall be returning soon hopefully. Thoroughly recommended.”

“Lovely l Old country pub with helpful staff and a host of different beers in a beautiful setting. My only issue was the sample menu on line was more comprehensive than the actual menu on our visit. That’s not to say any thing bad about the food that was served, which was good. The Ham, egg and chips sand the Bowman burger were very good.”

“As always the staff were excellent- friendly and helpful; the food was delicious (the hot honey chicken salad was particularly good) and the drink was good also. I love this pub. I have never had a disappointing experience here. Keep up the good work!”

“Amazing meal! First time back since the new owners. Will was our server for a birthday meal for 9 people. He could not have been more helpful and attentive. We all had different meals. Burgers were off the charts, loads of melting cheese. I had a Hot Honey Chicken Salad which was so flavourful and filling. I did order some bacon and cheese tator tots which I think I has 2 before the disappeared 😅 2 of the family had the Mediterranean Tarts which they said were delicious. My sister in-law had the chicken cesar salad again a huge yummy portion. Then we desserts...biscoff cheesecake, honeycomb cheesecake and vanilla ice-cream. All washed down with some Pinot Blush 🥰. A perfect birthday and added bonus of more childrens toys outside made it great for all the family. Cannot wait to come back x”

“Visited this evening for food and drinks. Always lovely to return here. Visited a lot last summer. Staff are super friendly, food excellent - proper pub food, huge range of drinks. The cider menu is 5*, Rosie's Pig (4.2%) and Bee Sting (6.8%) were my choices. Look forward to visiting again soon.”
