About The Loyal Trooper

The Loyal Trooper operates as a village pub on Sheffield Rd, combining a restaurant, bar, beer garden and sports bar in one setting. The kitchen turns out a Sunday Lunch with roast dinners, Yorkshire puddings and fresh vegetables, and cask ales sit alongside a wider range of beers at the bar. A quiz night gives the pub a fixed weekly draw beyond the usual food and drink service. The beer garden gives those who prefer to eat and drink outdoors a spot to do so, and dogs are welcome throughout. A step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without difficulty. Reservations are recommended, though tables can also be reserved in advance for those planning ahead. The pub opens daily, keeping the restaurant, bar and beer garden running across the week rather than on limited days.

Customer Review Summary

Sunday lunch draws the most consistent praise, with reviewers describing excellent quality meat, huge portions, perfect Yorkshire puddings and four different vegetables served piping hot, and another calling it good home cooked roast with fresh vegetables. Close behind, the cask ales and general beer selection get repeated mentions, alongside a menu that several describe as good value, with one group getting two meals, extra chips and three pints for a modest total. The atmosphere comes up again and again as cosy and friendly, with staff called warm and efficient even when handling a pre-ordered group of ten. One visitor did note the food, while good, is "not the best food around," though still called worth the price. Reviewers repeatedly mention returning after years away and finding it still popular with locals, with one recalling a scooter club visit that raised over £370 for charity through coffee and chilli sales.

A really nice village pub in South Anston nr Rotherham. Two meals extra chips and 3 pints for £39. Great value. Went at 6pm and the pub was full but had reserved a table. Highly recommend.

The visit was a pre-order lunch visit for a group of 10. Quick to pick up the phone and pleasant. We arrived and the food arrived shortly after we got our drinks. All staff are nice and friendly. Food pretty good and all orders were correct. It's not the best food around but it's also not expensive. There was 2 cask ales, always a bonus. I enjoyed our visit to what is clearly a popular village local. Already planning a return visit.

Havent been here for years. I grew up here and had some amazing nights out probably 30yrs ago on this pub!! Went here for a birthday lunch with my mum. Service was amazing. Food was so good...really decent portions and good value for money. A really nice atmosphere in the pub even though it was quiet. Dead cosy feeling.
