About Malet Arms
Malet Arms is a pub on Newton Tony in Salisbury, set right beside a river with a river view out front. Inside, a small private room called Officers Mess is decorated with military memorabilia, and a wood burner sits in the main space. The kitchen serves a Sunday roast with beef, lamb or a veg roast option, and pie and mash is on the menu alongside a chicken and mushroom pie. At the bar, guest ales and beer share space with Moretti on draught. Dogs are welcome. A large car park serves visitors arriving by car.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch draws the most mentions at this riverside pub, with diners describing roast beef, lamb options, a vegetable roast and well cooked veg in decent portions. Close behind are the home cooked mains: a salmon fillet, scampi, a king prawn risotto with asparagus and broad beans, and a pie and mash one reviewer calls the best in years, followed by a crumble. The cheeseboard is called massive, and reviewers praise the guest ales and the standard of the beer. The caveats are small but specific. One diner found the chicken and mushroom pie mostly mushroom, with little chicken and too peppery, another found the Sunday lunch plentiful but not super delicious, and a coffee and then a tea were forgotten. One reviewer suggests booking ahead because the place was busy. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and one server made sure a table's order went in before the kitchen shut.

“We loved this little gem so much. Food, people, atmosphere, decoration, history, local area. We took our 7 year old and played some of the games available, had lunch on a Saturday which was surprisingly quiet but unbelievably delicious. Best pie and mash I've had in years. Gorgeous crumble after. Highly recommend and will be returning!”

“We stumbled across the Malet after attending a local sporting event. What a gem in a beautiful setting. We had a very warm welcome from the landlord. All the staff we met were fabulous. We had an evening meal which was outstanding. The menu was very imaginative and all our dishes were cooked to perfection. My king prawn asparagus and broad bean risotto main course was fabulous. Wait until you visit the loos to see the stunning wallpaper,I want to buy some. There was one thing that did concern me though. Don't upset the lovely lady behind the bar as she must have big biceps as she spent ages cleaning the pipes of one of the beer pumps!”

“Nice old pub right next to the river, decently priced beer, I had the chicken and mushroom pie, unfortunately it was mainly mushroom with little chicken, and too peppery, not nice and creamy like I was hoping (perhaps a beef one would be better?) but the veg and mash was nice, staff were super friendly (especially the girl with tattoos) but forgot a coffee and later a tea, one thing to highly recommend is the cheeseboard, pricey but massive and well worth it.”

“This was such a fab stop off on our journey home from Cornwall to Sussex. Lucie gave amazing service. She went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and make sure we got our order in before the kitchen shut. Many thanks!”

“We managed to book a small room called 'Officers Mess' which is wonderfully decorated with military memorabilia. The home cooked food was delicious and great portion sizes. We were all full after our starters and mains. Guest ales were a real treat and the whole evening was made very special by the staff. Sizeable car park and outdoor seating - a wonderful find and thoroughly recommend”
