Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the dish reviewers raise most, with several calling it awesome or recommending it outright. Pies sit close behind, including steak and ale, chicken and mushroom, and a harvest pie for a vegan diner. Roasts, lasagne, burgers and satay chicken also get mentions, and one reviewer finished with fruit crumble and custard. Portions are described as gigantic. Real ales on tap draw praise, with one pint of Danish Dynamite singled out. Staff are described repeatedly as friendly, polite and attentive, and the country pub atmosphere is welcomed, with one motorcyclist describing benches at the back with views and flowers. The drawbacks are small and scattered. One reviewer finds parking challenging and suggests booking in advance for busy times, and a vegan diner found no starters and only sorbet for dessert. One group felt the staff deserved a tip, but none of them had cash and it could not be added to the card bill.

“The Earl is a survivor. Well done. We have seen a huge number of pubs curl up their toes but not the Earl and I can see why. Top food, service and still feels like a pub, 10 points!”

“Excellent Sunday lunch, with a wide selection on the menu. We all enjoyed our choice - roast, steak pie, fish and chips, burger all really scrummy. Atmosphere was great and staff were friendly and attentive; we were disappointed when paying the bill, that we couldn't leave a tip - they so deserved it, but none of us had cash and we couldn't add it to the bill. Thankyou so much, we shall be back.”

“Six of us stopped at The Earl of Normanton on our journey home and loved it. Friendly staff, delicious food, a welcoming atmosphere and idyllic surroundings—an excellent place to stop, and we’d definitely return.”

“Amazing meals. Often of gigantic proportions. Quick and friendly service. Normally 3 or 4 real ales on tap. Parking can be challenging. Very popular at certain times so recommend booking in advance.”

“Excellent midweek lunch enjoyed with my neighbour eho had been there previously for Sunday lunch. Friendly and efficient service. Good selection of beers, enjoyed a pint of Stonehenge Ale's Danish Dynamite. Midweek lunchtime it wasn't crowded. Has a good country pub atmosphere. My chicken and mushroom pie was accompanied by good selection of veg, my friend enjoyed his lasagne. We were tempted by the desert menu to have fruit crumble and custard for me. Will definitely be back.”
