About The Tinners Arms
The Tinners Arms is a pub in Zennor, Saint Ives, dating back to 1271, when it was built to house and feed the masons constructing neighbouring St Senara's Church. An open fire burns inside the old bar. The kitchen cooks pub food from local ingredients, with fish and chips and crab salads among the mains and Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert. The pub sits on the coastal path, so walkers can stop in on their route, and dogs are welcome to come along. Ice cream is sold outside the entrance.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly welcome from staff, including a family with two toddlers and a newborn who felt looked after, and a group that hadn't booked but still got a nice table. Fish and chips come close behind as the food draw, described as large, fresh and well cooked, alongside crab salads. Others name chilli prawns in a garlic oil for bread dipping, chilli and rice with cheese and sour cream, generous portions including seemingly bottomless nachos, sticky toffee pudding, and a well poured pint of Guinness. The old fireplace and garden seating also earn praise. One reviewer describes a very different visit: bar staff who sighed over a request to remove lettuce and tomato, an order that still came out wrong, garlic bread gone soggy on a napkin, and a dry burger with barely cooked bacon, and the party left before finishing. Several walkers return every year on the coast path, and a few mention friendly birds, including a chaffinch, feeding from the hand outside.

“Zennor has great walks and the Tinners Arms is the best food pub we experienced in 4 weeks in Cornwall. The garden seating is peaceful and sunny. Perfect!”

“Fantastic pub, unmatched hospitality, and a proper pint of Guinness! We visited The Tinners Arms with friends, between us having two three-year-olds and a newborn, and we couldn’t have felt more looked after. Going out to eat with young children can sometimes feel daunting, but the team here made us feel completely at home from the second we walked through the door. The kids were made to feel so welcome, and they absolutely cleared their plates. A massive shoutout to Mel in particular—she is an absolute gem. My three-year-old son thought she was wonderful, and her warmth really made our visit special. The food across the board was brilliant, and the cosy, traditional atmosphere of the pub is spot-on. A special mention has to go to the Guinness, too. Working in the industry, I’ve spent time with the Guinness quality assurance team in Covent Garden, so I’m naturally quite particular about how a pint is kept and poured—and this was top-tier. Superb food, a genuinely welcoming atmosphere, and staff who go above and beyond. We couldn’t recommend it highly enough and will definitely be back.”

“Bar staff completely stuck up and ignorant. Must be sick of hospitality nearing the end of the season. I ordered the first round of drinks, no problem. My partner then got the next round, only to be belittled and condescended over the origins of their cider choices 🤣 Then came the food.. I went in 10 minutes before dinner service started to ask if they had any food menus, i wanted to look so we could order as soon as the gates opened (we had been waiting for service to start since 3pm) I was told to come back in 2 minutes! Ridiculous, then to my surprise people (must be local) had already had their menus and seemingly placed their orders. As the amount of tables served before us was astonishing! Then placing the order, we went for 2 burgers and cheesy garlic bread. £18.50 ‘homemade’ burger and £7.50 garlic bread. I had some elements of the dishes which I wanted to remove, and was instantly scolded, and sighed at by my server. I’m even sure I heard another MOS mutter ‘oh no here we go’ or some sarcastic comment. She mustve thought she was invisible with her back turned to me 🤣 They couldn’t have given less of a 💩 at making it known they were not happy with my order, and so I said ‘chef not going to be happy with this one?’ to try and make some light of this uncomfortable situation and then told them ‘I get it cause I’m a chef’ and just when it couldnt get worse the 3rd bar lady had to chime in with ‘well if you’re a chef then you shouldn’t do it!’ 🤣🤣 Our server was so caught up in huffing and puffing at my order (typing ‘no lettuce no tomato’ is obviously so difficult.) that she didnt take it properly and the food came out wrong anyway. And then there is the food. They plated the garlic bread on top of a napkin, it was a side - so you can imagine by the time we came to it, the bottoms had completely absorbed the tissue and thus it was inedible. Not that it was particularly appetising on a bought in panini soggy enough to have probably come out of the microwave. And then the homemade burger, at first i thought it was bought in, until I took a bite of it and saw its made up of mostly paprika. It was dry, bacon was next-to-raw, and for £18.50 it was probably the worst thing ive ever seen. I cant imagine what it must look like with all the extra layers slapped in there. No check back to see if the food was okay. I think the male food runner knew it was atrocious and was reluctant to come over. Could not be bothered to make a scene as I deemed the ignorant staff wouldn’t give a monkeys, so we left. We came last year - it was great. Order something you know will be cooked from frozen / in the fryer. I.e chips, battered fish, scampi I have never experienced service like it in my life, best of all, we aren’t even tourists - we’re local!! Just not over 50!! It is clear that this small town pub does not value the customer’s that keep this business afloat, and their bar ladies certainly lack the ability to hold their tongue and attitude to ensure the experience is pleasant. Disgusting.”

“Such a welcoming place. We couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Mel the landlady was a fantastic hostess and really looked after us. Shout out to all the staff, especially Kelsey, Gary and Bill who were all great and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. We will definitely be back on our next trip from Nottingham. Many thanks from Ian & Robert.”

“We had a warm greeting in this very friendly pub. We hadn't booked but got a nice table and enjoyed a tasty meal. The portions were very generous (sadly I was defeated by the seemingly bottomless nachos!) The staff were friendly and patient, we had a great time. Thank you.”

“Dating back to 1271, The Tinners Arms is one of the oldest inns around. It was built to provide beds, food and ale for the masons building St Senara's Church next door; and when you step into the dimly-lit, wood-smokey old bar, it's easy to imagine the Tinners' medieval origins. The Tinners serves classic pub food made from local ingredients. If you're walking the coast path and pop into Zennor en route, the ham, egg & chips with a pint of Mermaid really hits the spot. You can sit inside in the cosy old bar, enjoying the open fires, or take a seat in the large beer garden.”
