Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out friendly staff for whom nothing is too much trouble, from a regular who comes in daily to a party of 19, six of them children, booked twice in two weeks. One server is praised for warning about a hot plate and fetching straws. Food draws split verdicts. Chicken strips and cheesy garlic bread are called fresh and flavorful, a chicken tikka masala platter is described as pretty good, and the self-serve Yorkshire tea gets a mention. The outdoor play area, large sports screen and dog-friendly seating are liked, though the play area is said to need updating, and one parent was disappointed that the kids offer ended before the summer holidays did. The complaints are detailed. One reviewer describes burnt garlic bread, a warm roast with tiny potatoes and sloppy mac and cheese, and reports toilet cubicles without locks and a baby changing room called disgusting. Another describes a dry mixed grill steak and microwaved chicken. A returned order of sweet chili strips came back with salt and pepper seasoning simply sprinkled on, and a burnt onion bhaji was replaced by another black one.

“Love this place been to a few hungry horses this one has a outside play area which needs updating but is still fun for kids. Food was great value wish they had left offer on for kids all through summer holidays so that was disappointing but other than that love this place.”

“The service provided was exceptional. We visited on Friday, July 3rd, at 6 PM. Despite the busy atmosphere, the bar staff, Logan and Emily, efficiently managed the service, ensuring prompt attention to our orders. I ordered the chicken strips and cheesy garlic bread, both of which were fresh and flavorful. The young lady who delivered our food was courteous and followed up to ensure our satisfaction. Please maintain this high standard of service; it is commendable and sets a benchmark for Greene King establishments in St. Helens.”

“Our first time here. My husband, son, daughter in law, sister in law and my two grandchildren. Firstly we were told we couldn't sit in window so we could keep an eye on my Grandson in playground, so he couldnt go in. You said table was booked for three pm... it was twelve fifty pm!!!! Went to bar to order food an drinks....... EVENTUALLY!!!! staff arrived behind the bar. Large que was gathering rapidly. Food came for five of our party, my son and I had a wait. Roast was awful, potatoes were tiny (aunt Bessie's came to mind) food was warm, not hot obviously been sitting there before arriving late! Some items missing, didn't want to ask as everybody had finished and again there would be a wait. Fish was all batter and again warm. Mac an cheese was sloppy and could tell been microwaved many times, garlic bread burnt. Table was cleared and my son and I were still eating. Rude! Toilets, 2 cubicles had no locks so I had to put my bag down to keep door ajar! Baby changing was disgusting!!! Changed in the car! This was an absolute nightmare for all of us. Never ever again will we visit you establishment unless it was for a refund.”
