Quick info
About Lymewood Farm - Farmhouse Inns
Lymewood Farm - Farmhouse Inns is a pub in Saint Helens at 2 Galway Cres, run as a traditional tavern with play areas for children, which gives families with young kids space to settle in. A carvery runs daily at its own station, where a staff member carves the roast, and diners give their table number instead of collecting a carvery ticket. The menu also lists a mixed grill and fish and chips, and a long list of homemade desserts rounds it out. Food and drink orders go through the bar or the app, and a queue forms at busy times. The pub is walk-in, and Sundays are among its busier days. Parking is in a paid car park, with free parking when you enter your car registration in the app on the bar.

Customer Review Summary
The carvery draws the most mentions, with reviewers praising the friendly carvery staff, generous portions and a roast carved with a smile, and one parent describing how the carver changed utensils and washed his hands for a child with an allergy. Close behind are the mixed grill, chicken combo and fish and chips, which a few found filling, along with family birthday meals where staff were welcoming and parking was easy, including a bay by the entrance for a wheelchair user. The complaints are about busy Sundays and consistency. One reviewer waited a long stretch for finished starters to be cleared and was left unserved at the bar, while another found the carvery broccoli mushy, the parsnips oily and the Yorkshire puddings hollow. A carvery party was not told the ham and turkey had run out. Two reviewers received glasses with lip marks, and one was told "it's just water" when asking for a replacement. The cheesecake was called a bit too warm, and one reviewer was charged for three ice cream servings instead of two. One diner who stayed for a family birthday meal still singled out a waitress's singing.

“I can only review this place based on my first visit. Why only a 3? Let’s start with the amenities. There’s ample car parking, well-marked and posted. It’s a paid car park, but you can get free parking if you enter your car registration in the app on the bar. The place was clean and tidy, and the bathrooms were spotless. We were greeted on arrival, even though we didn’t have a reservation. We were promptly given a table. The downside is that I wasn’t asked if I had been to this place before. It was my first time. The restaurant was quiet at 5:30 p.m., but we still had to queue at the bar to place our order. It wasn’t clear to me that I didn’t need a carvery ticket until I asked for one. Then, I was told to just use my table number. The guy running the carvery was very pleasant. The food was disappointing. Most of it was still cooking in the bottom of the pots in its own oil, and it didn’t look very fresh. The broccoli was so soft it was like crumbs on my plate. The parsnips were cooking in their own fat, all mushy and soft. You could taste the oil they poured over the food to make it look better. The Yorkshire puddings were just a full pocket of air, with no texture. The staff seemed more interested in chatting with regulars than in taking care of customers. I did find the staff I spoke with polite, but it was a bit disappointing. The carvery is good value, but it’s hard to keep it fresh all day, especially when there aren’t enough staff. It was clear that the guy running the carvery was overwhelmed, and the restaurant wasn’t very busy at the time. However, it did fill up over the course of our visit. Overall, I felt that the food let them down and that there was a need for some staff training.”

“Absolutely outstanding service from Spencer yesterday at the carvery station when he noticed I had informed the staff member when ordering my son’s food he has an allergy. He nicely asked us did we mind waiting a few minutes why he washed his hands & change his utensils before asking my 8 year old what he would like. Fantastic member of staff & made us feel like it wasn’t an issue whatsoever. We will defo be returning”

“Attended for a family birthday meal and all family members were looked after very well by Jade at the bar and Lewis serving on the carvery. All staff very welcoming and friendly throughout our visit. Parking no problem, 1 family member requiring wheelchair access managed to park in a disabled bay right next to the entrance. Lovely meal and service from staff.”
