About Grapes Hotel
Grapes Hotel is a pub on St Helens Rd in Prescot, built around a fresh daily carvery. The carvery offers a choice of slow-roasted meats with Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and seasonal veg, and meat-free options are available for vegetarians. The standard menu adds steak pies, fish and chips, and gammon. Food is ordered at the bar or through an app, and the carvery finishes early in the evening. The pub is open daily and hosts tribute show events, including an ABBA tribute afternoon. Large parties use it for birthday meals, and it accommodates coach groups. Big football matches are shown on its screens, and it sits next to Knowsley Safari Park.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the carvery, praising its slow-roasted meats, unlimited trimmings and meat-free options, with the gammon and kids' meals also mentioned approvingly. Close behind are the birthday celebrations, where groups describe staff bringing out a cake, adding candles to desserts and joining in with Happy Birthday, and the friendly, attentive service at the bar and tables. One reviewer enjoyed an ABBA tribute show and booked for two further events. Standard menu orders like burgers or steaks are described as hit-or-miss when the pub is stretched during busy Sunday afternoons and football matches, and a few mention a wait without booking. The sharpest complaints concern service and carvery timing. One party reports being told the carvery was shutting at 7:40 on a Saturday while still on starters, and another was told it was closed at 8pm. Both describe rude, abrupt staff and say no closing time was posted. One reviewer also objects to being told a large party's table could not be changed. Praise often ends with diners saying they will return.

“The most awful experience. We hadn’t even sat down and were told to hurry up with our order. We arrived 8pm and were told carvery was closed. The carvery area was so full of food it makes me wonder what happens to all that food. I cannot find anywhere on the menu or on site where it says carvery closes at a certain time. Just a terrible experience. A strange odd atmosphere and rude ignorant staff. Would never ever go back.”

“Emma & the team looked after us really well. I had the carvery (recommend) & my other half had the gammon which she loved too. Look forward to many a return visit.”

“We recently visited the restaurant with a large party for our sons 18th, the food was very good, but that was the only good thing. The table we was given wasn't suitable for a big party, we asked if there was any other tables to be abruptly told by the manager we always sit big parties on this table, this was despite there being plenty of tables available. When I ordered the food at the bar, the person who took my order was annoyed I ordered with her and not via the app. We was barley half way through eating our starters to be told by the manager is anyone having the carvery as it shuts soon, despite it being 7:40 on a Saturday evening and the kitchen being open till 9pm, we had to ask for our plates to be taken when they bought our mains over, there was no check backs either, also there was no napkins or sauce on the table, when I asked for the sauce at the bar the lady looked annoyed, all the front of house have no manners or customer service skills and non of them were polite, they were all rude and abrupt, even the person on the carvery was very rude to my dad and my son. We eat out loads and this is bar far the worst customer service we've ever had. Im not after a refund as we would never eat in there again, considering it was a Saturday night the place was empty which tells you everything about the place, the only positive was the food was nice, you only have the read the negative reviews they get on google when they reply to them to see how rude they are, no doubt they'll probably use the excuse for the carvery shutting early due to the carvery not holding temperature, it was just very quiet, that's why the carvery shut early, they never take ownership with negative feedback, this is despite them advertising to leave google reviews in the restaurant, on the day we went they wasn't understaff or anything they'll use as an excuse as to why the service was so bad, yet the staff were so rude, from the time we arrived to the time we left they clearly didn't want our custom despite spending over £200, id defiantly recommend people avoid this place.”

“Went to the Grapes this evening. Group of 8 of us to celebrate an 80th birthday. Drinks were served with a smile. Food was of good quality. Food requests for our fussy eaters were dealt with without question. All food arrived as ordered. We brought decorations for our table and a cake. Staff looked after the cake and brought it out when requested, even joining in with a rendition of Happy Birthday! Special thanks to Jenny for for looking after us (and for clearing up after us too). Would definitely recommend ⭐”
