About The Bramley Cottage
The Bramley Cottage is an Ember Inn pub on Callow Hill Ln in Redditch, serving a full pub food menu. Roast dinners are the traditional centrepiece, and the kitchen also cooks fish and chips with battered haddock and a surf and turf for those who want something heavier. A brunch menu runs as well, with smashed avocado among the dishes. The pub also serves a Christmas Day meal for those who would rather not cook at home. Food and drinks are ordered through an app, and the bar can have a queue at busy times.

Customer Review Summary
Praise centers on the Sunday roast, which one reviewer recommends and another thanks the kitchen for, with a brunch of smashed avocado with pink onion pickle and a Christmas Day meal also described as delicious and lovely. Staff are the other recurring plus, called welcoming, friendly and helpful, even by a critical regular. The complaints target the kitchen and thin staffing. Several describe steaks not cooked as asked, including a surf and turf where neither steak reached medium rare and only one came with the sirloin upgrade. Others report haddock that is mostly batter, a meagre lunchtime fish and chips, and a small, cold, rubbery calamari, with the food called expensive for the portions. One server was described as run ragged. Free puddings were offered after the steak problems, though the diners said they did not make up for the meal.

“Nice pub, staff are always welcoming. Guy with beard on the bar is so nice and attentive. Always chatty and so friendly. Genuinely feel like he's interested in my presence and custom. He deserves a special mention, he's definitely in the right job. Other establishments plonk stuff down on your table with just your table number and sad interactions so this is a nice welcoming environment.”

“The lunchtime fish & chips off the set menu would be better renamed as chips and fish reflecting the meagre portion of battered haddock. However, I recognise this is more a general Ember Inns issue other than particularly a Bramley Cottage issue. After waiting for about half-an-hour for the food to be provided I approached the bar to enquire as to ithe the food's whereabouts only to be somewhat abruptly informed by the young lady behind the bar that we hadn't ordered any food. Incredible as the food and drinks were all ordered at the same time. Attendance wasn't registerd on my loyalty card, despite the same lady saying it had been. An eventful visit we're not in a hurry to repeat.”

“I've been going to the bramley for years. Just lately I have to keep sending my food back. Not cooked enough. To cold but foods on a boiling hot plate that's obviously been in the microwave. Steak is never cooked how I like it. The Haddock is full of batter. It's let's find the fish. The food is to expensive for what you get. Same menu nothing changes. I think its gone right down since they've changed chef's. I won't be rushing to eat there soon. I'll just have a drink. But all the staff are great. Alot of my friends have stopped eating there to.”

“I dont normally leave bad reviews, just look at all my others. We booked here for family meal, was pretty disappointing to be honest. Two of us ordered the surf and turf...both steaks were not cooked medium rare, both asked for the sirloin upgrade, only one came with the sirloin. I didnt kick up a fuss. My mrs did eventually got a new steak, which still wasnt medium rare again. Tomatoes were raw, just placed on the grill for a second. Blue cheese sauce was watery and crap. The other two ordered the salmon, which was fine and the Lamb Kofte, which was ok. The poor waitress was run ragged and it wasn't even that busy, meaning she wasn't all that attentive as she seemed to be the only one running food. They did offer us free puddings as they knew we weren't happy, but that didnt make up for the crap food. We'd bought a couple of bottles of wine and some beers, wasn't a cheap meal. Certainly won't be rushing back.”
