Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the beautiful setting: an old pub full of character, with a front garden of tables under a large tree that suits walkers and cyclists. The owner and staff are repeatedly called friendly, and dogs are welcome. Food praise centres on the baguettes, with massive prawn, roast beef and chunky ham fillings. Reviewers also name the homemade quiches, a Devon salad, the desserts and a bespoke veggie roast made for one diner. The roast dinner divides opinion. One reviewer enjoyed a roast outdoors on a sunny Sunday, but two others were let down. One described four dinners as very bland and lukewarm, with beef nobody finished, and the other found the Sunday roast small, with three potatoes that tasted microwaved. One family felt a bar request for grated cheese on chips and a baguette was refused as too busy, yet when the nephew asked the server about it, he came back from the kitchen with enough cheese for both.

“Lovely pub and friendly service, food was a big let down though. We had the Sunday roast which for the price of nearly £18 was very small and wasn’t fresh, the three small potatoes tasted like they’d been microwaved. Would probably not eat here again but very nice inside and out, great for a beer.”

“Popped in today with my sister and her son, myself and my two sons. This pub is beautiful, the building itself and the garden are stunning. We stopped by for lunch. Everyone apart from my sisters son had bagettes. Initially I thought they were a little pricey.... But on arrival they were epic. My kids loved the massive prawn bagettes, I loved my roast beef bagette and my sisters ham bagette had 3 of the chunkiest most delicious ham slices I've ever seen! We had a couple of sides of chips which were delicious and some garlic bread. My nephew as an older kid pushing adulthood but with disabilities had 2x kids meals... The pizza and chips and the chicken Goujons and chips. He was also very happy with his food. However our experience was slightly ruined by the attitude of the older guy who we assumed was the owner. There was no table service to order food and drink (which is fine) so we ordered at the bar with the owner(?) The issue was that my disabled nephew wanted grated cheese on his chips, and the garlic bread to be made into cheesy garlic bread. My sister wanted to add some cheese to the ham baguette.... The chap granted cheese on the garlic bread, but refused to add cheese to the baguette or my nephews chips (as they were very busy and couldn't accommodate those requests).... It really wasn't that busy.... And we would have happily paid extra by the way....I will add that he wasn't in any way rude or nasty, just totally dismissed the request. However... When the server brought our order to the table, my nephew asked where our cheese was for his chips and his mums baguette. Bless him he went back to the kitchen and came back with enough grated cheese for the chips and the baguette. I just dont know why the older bloke made an issue out of something that obviously was an easy fix? Shame Apart from that strange episode, the experience was great. I would like to return.”

“The Lions is a wonderful pub run by Mark and his team. They recently hosted a small party for me and it was perfect. Great food (the homemade quiches are to die for), lovely cosy, characterful atmosphere, and brilliant attentive staff.”

“The Lions of Bledlow is a lovely, old-style pub full of character, warmth, and genuine friendliness. It is extremely dog-friendly, and the atmosphere is wonderful. The staff deserve special praise: the young lady I spoke to on the phone was incredibly kind, reassuring and charming, and just as delightful in person. The young man at the bar was very nice, and the owner was friendly and chatty. Hospitality here is truly excellent. Unfortunately, the food fell far short. We ordered four roast dinners (£15 each). While reasonably priced, we would gladly have paid more for a meal with proper flavour. The food looked appealing, but it was very, very bland and luke warm. My son, who normally has no difficulty eating anything, took one bite of the beef and couldn’t eat any more — even saying he wouldn’t give it to the dog. In the end, none of us ate our meals. All four plates were handed over to the dog, who did eventually eat it, though with far less enthusiasm than usual. The pub itself is excellent, and I would absolutely return for the atmosphere, the friendliness, and the dog-welcome. But based on this visit, I would not recommend the roast dinners.”

“Lovely beautiful cosy place. Super friendly owner and staff and very accommodating to foods needs. Bespoke veggie roast created. Loved the dogs, and bathroom is gorgeous. Great prices, definitely coming back. 10/10 experience”
