About Ye Horns Inn

Ye Horns Inn is a pub on Horns Lane in Preston, a historic timbered building dating from 1782 with a modern restaurant attached. The pub has a log fire, and the lounge has a wood burner. The kitchen runs a two-course Sunday lunch with beef and chicken options and extra Yorkshire puddings. The menu also lists chicken liver parfait with sourdough or toasted brioche, and sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. Reservations are required for lunch and dinner, and guests can have a drink at the bar before eating. A private dining room seats groups. A barn space is hired out for wedding receptions.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the cod, served as cod and chips with a fantastic pea purée or as cod tempura, and described as fresh and crisp. The chicken liver parfait also draws praise, though one reviewer found the sourdough alongside it too little and brittle. Sunday lunch is called really good, with roast chicken enjoyed, and the setting is repeatedly called beautiful, with friendly service and a relaxed feel. Execution is the recurring complaint. Reviewers describe triple cooked chips that were still hard, new potatoes almost raw in the middle, uncooked pasta on a broccoli soup, beef that was tough and not the pink the menu promised, dry roast potatoes, an overcooked burger and lamb on the gamey side. Sticky toffee pudding splits opinion. One calls it very good though not warm enough, while others found the sauce too light or too sparse. One table found the music too loud. One roast diner still singled out the extra Yorkshire puddings as light and crispy.

“Fantastic evening out with the team (teamAB), first time here for me personally and very impressed. Lovely setting, very stylish interior and nice ambience. Friendly service and most important of all the food was great! Cod tempura and sticky toffee pudding was my choice..😋”

“The place is stunning…very tastefully decorated. The staff were very pleasant although not very well versed on the menu when asked about it! Disappointed with our meals however. Broccoli Soup was thick & claggy with an earthy unpleasant taste whatever was sitting on top…pasta?????…was uncooked! Chicken Liver parfait was delicious but served with 3 small and brittle pieces of sourdough which did not match the portion of the parfait…another couple of slices would’ve been better suited and a salad decoration would have been nice! The steak was delicious, but the triple cooked chips hadn’t even been cooked once as they were still hard! Panko breaded chicken breast was dry & greasy…crying out for a sauce! The kimchi slaw on top was very chunky and dominated both the chicken & the plate…was most unappetising… might be better served in a separate bowl? Had to order sides as didn’t come with the chicken…the carrots were delicious…the broccoli was crunchy but ok, but the new potatoes were hard in the middle, almost raw! The sticky toffee pudding was more like a very sweet dense sponge pudding served with a very light runny sauce and an insipid tasting vanilla ice cream. Difficult to hold a conversation as the music was loud and overpowering…surely gentle background music would be more fitting to the atmosphere of what became a busy restaurant? We booked in early so our service was ok but so glad we didn’t book in any later as the restaurant was becoming very busy and noticed people were questioning where their drinks were! Overall an expensive disappointment! When they learn how to cook potatoes properly might consider returning…but realistically think that’s extremely doubtful!”

“Beautiful place. We got the cod and chips, YHI burger and lamb. The cod was excited really well, fresh and crisp with a fantastic pea purée. Lamb was decent but on the gamey side. Burger was a tad disappointing given the namesake. Patty was a little overcooked, and generally nothing much to shout about”

“We had a small wedding reception here, and it was an absolute dream. The staff were wonderful throughout, and a huge thank you to Nik and the team for organizing such an amazing day for us. The food was excellent too - sausage rolls were especially outstanding! We hired the barn, which comfortably accommodated our 40 or so guests, with plenty of room for seating, a buffet, and our musician. There’s also a beautiful covered outdoor area where we held our little ceremony. As an added bonus, they let me get ready in a private staff bedroom upstairs with its own bathroom, which was a nice touch. We couldn’t have asked for a better venue for our celebration and would highly recommend it. It’s a beautiful pub too if you’re just looking for a nice drink/meal!”

“We had the 2 course Sunday lunch menu, the food was really good. Downside was the sticky toffee pudding didn’t have any where near enough of the sauce, and the carrot and swede was a little disappointed. Otherwise all good, would go again”
