  “We stopped here for drinks and food on Saturday afternoon whilst staying locally. We sat in the beer garden which offered spectacular views and plenty of comfy seating. For a sunny Saturday afternoon, we were surprised how quiet it was so it was an enjoyable experience. Drink prices were reasonable and the 3 for £12 ‘picky bits’ menu was fantastic. We were surprised by portion size and quality. Definitely value for money.”

  “UPDATE 2nd August 2026. Unfortunately another disappointing visit. When booking they asked if it was a special event so i advised it was a birthday. Nothing was done again as per last time so not sure why they asked. They said the table would be booked for 2 hours if busy. It wasn't busy and our party of 3 waited 55 mins for the main course to arrive. When I chased it up they said "it's just being plated up now." No apology. It took 60 mins in total for the mains. They kindly said we could order a child's portion of a roast dinner for my elderly mother who is 90. I ordered rump of lamb for her which is supposed to be tender. It was solid and she couldn't chew it and so left 90% of the meal. The yorkshire was hard and she jokingly knocked on the table with it. The parsnips and carrots were raw and hard and so were mine, although the mushroom wellington i ordered was delicious. I couldn't eat my veg either for fear of breaking a tooth. The third meal of steak and ale pie was faultless. The desserts were beautiful as they always are there. When we asked for the dessert menu she forgot and we waited again for it. When the party next to us left they commented the waiting times were horrendous and they had a baby with them (thankfully very well behaved. When Spread Eagle get it right it's a great place and strangely they cope better with larger numbers. But this time again unfortunately not. Previous review I have been to the Spread Eagle on many occasions and never faulted it. This time they let us down. When booking I put in the comments section that it was a birthday. Despite this, nothing happened. No treats or comments. The venue was quiet and they sat our party of 3 by the fire. We soon realised why when the embers died down that they'd switched the heating off and we all felt cold. Despite the lack of customers in there (we were the only party in the afternoon), our food took about 40 mins to arrive and we had to ask where it was. One of the dishes was fishcake (singular). See photo. Worth over £16? I'll let you decide. The second dish was vegetarian toad in the hole (is this even cooked through?) I'll let you decide that also but I've eaten enough veggie sausages to sink a ship and these were brown on one side only. The chicken dish was cold and the meat tough. Bear in mind this had been ordered by an elderly lady. We asked for another one and for a steak knife. The waiter (who i found to be a bit surly) said the knife provided was more than enough to cut it with. It wasn't. This lady has arthritis in her hands. And in any event the customer should be given what they ask for without question. There was no.need for comment. The meal was replaced only after 2 of us had already eaten. No steak knife. Not acceptable. He apologised that we couldn't all eat together and did knock 15% off the bill. But in my opinion they fell short of their usual standard. I've been to this place when it's heaving with people and received a top notch service. Not sure what happened here.”

  “I honestly wish I had taken some photos but I was that angry from word go, so they sat us down told us anything bread related was off the menu, so no starters, soup no bread, mushrooms no bread so we just opted for mains only the place was so quiet so not a rush, anyway we opted for mains only, hubby got the steak pie I opted for the steak, how would you like it, medium please, it came out bleeding all over the place, I said I can’t eat this ok we’ll redo it only thing is they also microwaved my salad, have you ever had a hot salad no neither have I nor will I have again, my steak came out burnt and curled up at both ends even my chips had been microwaved, on paying she laughed and said things happen, obviously I didn’t pay for mine so I went home hungry, I will never come here again. I will just say this my food should not have been reheated you should have given me a fresh one & maybe I would not have written this review”

  “We called in on a very rare date night for a meal, hoping for a real treat. We were not disappointed! We'd previously been attracted to the location of the pub but hadn't had the chance to eat here. The pub inside has quite a quirky but homely feel to it. We received a friendly welcome and, even though we had pre-booked, were given a choice of tables, although the pub was fairly quiet ( everyone possibly recovering from the football the night before (Wed)). Our waitress Keeva was a pleasant rarity, polite, friendly with a delicate balance of fun and banter something that is so regularly missing from hospitality these days. She was just the tonic after a day at work and definitely added to the experience. For food we went for the patè and the Prawn and crab Gratin to start, beautifully presented, extremely tasty (the sourdough is delicious). Then onto the mains, after much deliberation due to the choice, I went for the 8oz Sirloin (medium) with the added garlic prawns and pepper sauce, my partner chose the fish pie from the specials board. The food was piping hot and plentiful, steak cooked to perfection! And yes we did have dessert! I had the lemon cheesecake bomb and my partner had the Tiramisu both finished off the meal perfectly. All in all a fantastic evening, can't wait to return and perhaps even watch the sunset from the cosy beer garden. Thanks for a lovely evening”

  “Beautiful, clean place! We are always warmly welcomed by a member of staff to take us to a table; even staff that remember us from previous times. My partner and I went again tonight and were served by two lovely servers, Matthew and Dylan — both in good spirits and very welcoming. We discussed drinks with Dylan and it was good to know he knew what he was talking about on the spot! ☺️ The previous time we came, we ordered soft drinks, meals and no dessert (due to being full) — both wonderfully cooked. Matthew served us this time too and did incredibly well for his first shift. This time we ordered dessert and drinks alongside our main meals and we were pleasantly surprised — both sundaes were amazing and the drinks were pleasantly nice. Both boys served us today and were outstanding in their service; and very accommodating to giving us time for our orders and checking on us to make sure we were happy with our orders. Usually a very quiet place to dine but it was surprisingly busy tonight. The only downside of our night was judgmental, opinionated conversations (not related to the restaurant or staff) that other diners were having with one another a bit too loudly — but this is not a reflection of the restaurant itself. Overall we were very happy with our night, 5 ⭐️’s all around, we will both be back again!”

  “The Spread Eagle, Mellor — A Hidden Gem in the Ribble Valley Every now and then, a dining experience sneaks up on you, like finding a £20 note in an old coat pocket. That was our evening at The Spread Eagle in Mellor a place that, quite astonishingly, had somehow slipped beneath our culinary radar until now. It won’t again. From the moment we stepped in, there was a warmth in the welcome and a menu that promised hearty British cooking with a few refined flourishes. Our waiter, Damian, was an absolute credit to the place attentive without hovering, and confident in his recommendations. I opted for the Steak & Ale Pie, a robust, flaky-crusted beauty brimming with tender meat and rich gravy. If I’m nitpicking and it’s my job to the accompanying vegetables leaned a touch toward the lukewarm side. A minor quibble in an otherwise excellent plate. My wife’s choice was the Lamb Shepherd’s Pie, topped (and dramatically so) with an entire lamb shank jutting proudly from the dish part meal, part statement piece. The gravy was mint based and was incredible . Rich, comforting, and indulgent, it was the sort of food that makes you momentarily consider ordering a second “for later.” Dessert was a revelation: Clementine Tart with raspberry sorbet fresh, tangy, and a perfect palate cleanser after the richness of the mains. And then there’s the setting. Even before stepping inside, the views of the Ribble Valley from the car park are worth the trip alone a postcard panorama that sets the tone for an evening well spent. Verdict: The Spread Eagle is now firmly on our must return list. Warm service, memorable food, and a backdrop that could make even a soggy chip look romantic.”

  “Such a gem of a place. My husband and I had an impromptu night out and came across this delightful pub in Mellor. The ambience was amazing, beautiful decor throughout. The food really was amazing, I had lamb shank shepherds pie ( the meat fell off the bone) and the gravy was something else! (you need to try the gravy). My husband had steak and ale pie, full of steak! I don’t normally do sweets or desserts but I had to try the lemon/clementine slice with raspberry sorbet (out of this world), my husband had cherry Bakewell slice with custard… delicious!… We cannot rave about this beautiful pub and its surroundings (the view across the Ribble Valley 🥰) enough. Absolutely stunning. We will be back, with the family, that’s for sure. So go on and treat yourselves.”

  “We were served quickly, with nice meals and received service with a smile! The staff were attentive, thank you to Georgie, Lucy, Millie & Leam. The festive drinks menu had some good options and I enjoyed the Winter Berry Bellini and will go again to try some others.”
