What reviewers say
Reviewers most often mention cheese pie, roast dinner, garlic bread and steak and ale pie.
Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return mostly for the pub mains, with steak and ale pie and cheese pie singled out as lovely and delicious, and a family lunch roast of turkey and beef praised as melt in the mouth with oversized Yorkshire puddings. A rump steak and garlic bread starter also earn praise, and several call the staff welcoming and friendly. Dog owners describe being made to feel welcome, with a doggy dinner and a doggy beer bought for a Springer Spaniel, and a children's play area is mentioned. The complaints are about service and some dishes. Reviewers report missing cutlery that had to be fetched or borrowed, ketchup arriving ten minutes late, a tap water order needing a repeat, and a drink mix-up over rhubarb and ginger gin. Fish and chips draw criticism for overcooked fish and for batter with no fish inside. The pate starter was mostly butter, the garlic bread went soggy under mushroom sauce, and one reviewer found the bar staff unfriendly. One visit mentioned rowdy customers, and another noted the bar walls need repainting. One reviewer recalls the owner delivering a lasagne to their home without taking payment.

“I have never had such a high-quality meal in a pub in the UK. Hattie was incredibly welcoming, and the service was exceptional. Thank you again, and I look forward to seeing you soon!”

“Not sure how you can call it fish when no fish in there. Just batter. It was really crunchy and not nice at all. Bar staff weren’t friendly and seemed miserable. Hardly anyone in and think we know why.”

“I had the mushrooms and garlic bread starter which was just ok. Mushrooms were nice, but they were spoilt by pouring the sauce over garlic bread which made it very soggy. The bread would have been better served on the side to dip in. My husband was disappointed with his pate starter, not much pate in his dish, it was mainly butter. He said he wouldn't have it again. We both had Cheese pie for main. It was delicious and so were the chips. If we went again we would just have a main meal. Service wise they brought cutlery to the table, but only one set for starters. I had to get up and ask for more before the main meal arrived. Surely it would be easier to bring it all together, especially as it was brought in a container. I asked for a rhubarb and ginger gin to be told they only had rhubarb and elderflower. Within 5 mins they came to the table to tell me they only had rhubarb and ginger which I asked for in the first place? As it is table service I feel they should come to the table more often to ask if you would like any more drinks. Staff friendly.”
