Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the gluten free menu, with one praising a gluten free steak and kidney pudding and another noting plenty of options for coeliacs. Close behind are a lamb shoulder that melted in the mouth, a very good fish pie, an exceptional cheese pie and a steak burger called delicious. The apple and plum crumble, a creme brulee and three vegan desserts also earn praise. Reviewers describe a warm welcome, a glowing coal fire and an open fireplace, and one large group with young children felt well looked after. The criticism is specific. One party of four describes long waits for drinks and food under table service, a draught beer that had run out, and smoked salmon starters arriving instead of salmon sandwiches. One reviewer objected to a charge for a small dish of baked beans, and a vegan diner called the Valentine's cauliflower katsu curry a cop out beside the meat and fish choices. One family had a candle put in a dessert while staff sang happy birthday to their father.

“Had the steak burger it was absolutely delicious. We had quite a big group including young children and they were fantastic with us. Very fairly priced as well for the quality of food. Would definitely recommend.”

“Well what a disappointment having turned up for a light lunch ….turned up to a restaurant with two other tables occupied…there were a few outside as it was very warm …went to the bar to be told it’s table service only and was shown a seat….had to wait a good 10mins to be asked what we wanted to drink …then at least another 20 mins to be asked what we wanted to eat …oh btw the draught beer we ordered had just run out so had to order something else …having drunk said drink we were having to try to catch the 3 waitresses attention to order more …craning our necks and putting our hands up ….they seemed to like a good natter between them tho at the end of the bar …the food came and was not what we ordered ….( ordered salmon sandwiches and brought smoked salmon starters ) …apologies accepted we could not be bothered to wait for replacement…£110 lighter the 4 of us left extremely disappointed”

“What a lovely pub. Set in lovely surroundings with a large carpark and plenty of tables. And an extensive gluten free menu. Vegan and vegetarian also available. I had a gluten free steak and kidney pudding. I had not had one in years. It was so good. Lovely veg too. Beautifully presented and a good size portion. 5⭐”
