About The Grapes
The Grapes is a pub on Station Rd in Preston, overlooking the village green in Wrea Green with its duck pond and cricket pitch. It is part of the Greene King chain and runs separate lunch, Chefs Specials and breakfast menus, with a traditional Sunday roast and a local cask ale alongside. A bar area sits at the front, with a separate restaurant area on the other side of the bar. Several rooms and nooks keep their original features. Seating is take-a-seat-anywhere, and orders go through the bar or by QR code from the table. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
The complaints centre on service and value. Two reviewers describe waiting at the bar to be acknowledged, then getting no menus or guidance on where to sit. One says a Caesar salad arrived without bacon after only the anchovies were left out, and a garlic mushroom starter was a single halved mushroom. Another had to ask repeatedly for cutlery and condiments and found dinner too expensive for ordinary food. One lunch visitor found an uncleaned table and described a curt welcome at the bar.

“We normally like Greene King pubs and after a shaky start this didn't disappoint. It was a Friday night and there seemed to be a lot of drinkers and not diners which is unusual for a Greene King pub. There was or seemed a lack of staff around and we did think about leaving but we preserved and to be fair the service and meal was pretty good. Just needs a few more visable staff and someone who looks in charge. Not bad at all though 👍”

“We visited for lunch. On arriving at the bar there was a very curt young woman behind the bar. We asked what the process was for dining and she told us to order at the bar. That was it, nothing about where to eat or even a smile and a welcome. So we looked for a table and she shouted, 'no not that side, over here.' Her manners were appalling. So we found a table which had not been cleaned and the seat was filthy too. There was no ambient music, the atmosphere was awful. We spent our £60 for lunch at The Ship at Freckleton where nothing is ever too much trouble and the food and location much nicer. Shame as I used to love The Grapes years ago. We won't be back.”

“Really disappointing experience from start to finish; having never been before we walked in and to the bar, we stood there for a few minutes before we were aknowledged; me and my daughter were just looking at each other thinking are we invisible. Then we were told we could take a seat anywhere; no menus offered or no guidance on where to sit; I didn’t realise there was an actual restaurant area on the other side of the bar. So we sat down and used the QR code to order; my daughter ordered a £18.50 Caesar salad and I got the garlic mushroom starter; we asked for the salad to be made without anchovies, however when it arrived they’d also made it without bacon-nobody ever came back to us if the food was ok despite the pub being relatively quite (it was Sunday evening), we even sat there for a while after eating and nobody came to clear the plates. My garlic mushroom starter was literally one mushroom cut in half. We were really disappointed in the food and the whole experience, definitely won’t be returning.”

“I travel a lot and eat out most days. This place is far too expensive for what it is. The food was ok. Nothing special. The service was bad! We had to ask multiple times for simple things like knives, forks, salt, pepper etc... Nearly £200 for dinner for 3 people, main course and dessert, no starters. I would not eat there again, but I may go for a drink when I am in the area next time.”
