Customer Review Summary
The mega mixed grill is the dish reviewers name most, and the verdict is mostly critical. One party found both steaks wrongly cooked, a medium that was well done and a rare that was medium, with the chicken and gammon the best part of the plate. Steak complaints recur elsewhere, including a dry, tough sirloin and rump steak called adequate. Other negatives name grey, greasy fish and chips, loaded chips with pulled pork, and rubbery chicken. Several say staff vanished once food was delivered, and one bank holiday Sunday party found roasts and desserts sold out, including the jaffa cake slice. Positives come from a few reviewers who found the food well cooked, the portions generous, the staff friendly and the atmosphere good, with dogs made welcome and no sense of being rushed. Even in the sour visit, the sirloin was remade correctly and brought out quickly.

“The place is dull and dated with no atmosphere. The food was dreadful, one of us had fish and chips it looked grey and was full of grease and inedible. We also had loaded chips with pulled pork, again was not good. We told the bar man 9n way out and will definitely not be returning.”

“Wasn't a great experience at all, for a bank holiday weekend, the restaurant had no food to serve! Reservation at 5pm for 4 people on a Sunday. Firstly, had no merlot wine and was informed that they only had beef roasts left. By the time we ordered (15 minutes later) there were no roasts left at all and we had to change our order. We ordered gammon and was asked by the server if we would like 2 eggs, we said yes, however when the order arrived, there was no pineapple and just two eggs. When we asked for pineapple, we were told we had to pay extra even though we had already paid extra for the additional egg. We also ordered a sirloin medium steak which was served overcooked, dry and as tough as old boots. Had to ask for the steak to be remade. The new steak was cooked correctly and was brought out quickly. For dessert, we wanted the jaffa cake slice however this plus another dessert on the menu was out of stock. I Also received a 40% off mains discount code, however the small print stated this could not be used across the whole of the bank holiday weekend, which seemed silly to us. I also had a 20% bluelight code, however the lady at the till said that no discounts are working today, so it won't be accepted. She did not even try to scan or input the bluelight discount code. Not very good customer service at all. Used to come to the bell and bottle all the time with my family, however the customer service and food has gone downhill and needs to be improved. Our previous experience wasn't great either, we turned up around 7.45pm to be told that the kitchen was shut so couldn't order any food, however their website states they serve food until 9pm.”

“We went here today and had a meal we ordered two mega mixed grills for £24.95 each, we asked for one to medium steak and the other to be rare. The steak was not correct on both, the medium was well done and the rare was medium. This indicates the food was sat for a while. When we tried the steak it was a very bad cut and was full of fat smelt a little weird and didn't taste nice at all. The chicken and the gammon were the best part of the plate. We ordered at the bar and the food came with a medium wait time. After the food came that was the end of the staff they didn't return until we left they didn't ask how the food was if we were happy it was just a case of deliver the food then that's it. Overall this pub is using very cheap ingredients and charging top money for it. The food is not worth the price you pay. Our party won't be returning at all. The pub it'self is very nice and big but the quality of cheap ingredients is terrible. Needs improvement immediately, maybe the staff and the chef need to taste their food before serving.”
