About Half Way House
Half Way House is a Joseph Holt's pub on St Anne's Rd in the South Shore area of Blackpool, set in a historic listed building that has been restored as a gastropub. A stone-baked pizza station operates in the large dining area, and the bar pours Holts Bitter. Booths, snug areas and high tables with high stools give guests a choice of where to sit for a meal or a drink. Children eat here into the evening, and the pub presents itself as family-friendly. Sky Sports and BT Sports show through the week, with a dedicated sports area for live matches. A pub quiz runs on Sunday nights, and live music is scheduled across the month. The pub is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Food draws most of the praise, with one reviewer calling the shepherds pie the best and hottest pub meal in a long time and another enjoying a lasagna with garlic bread and a side salad, though they wanted more meat in the sauce. Others mention the tapas, Holts Bitter, and a spring menu of hot honey chicken, halloumi fries and sticky toffee pudding. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and attentive, and one notes they always ask how the food is. The complaints concern the roast and the atmosphere. One diner found the Sunday roast beef very dry, with overcooked vegetables and cauliflower. Another reported vaping at several tables and by the bar while staff did nothing, and a teenager describes loud swearing during a family meal, saying the staff are lovely but too quiet to sort things out. One family hosted a 90th birthday in the sports area, where the manager helped with posters and balloons and the cake came out before the buffet.

“Spot on. From the moment you walk in, everything just clicks. The food is excellent fresh, full of flavour, and clearly prepared with care. Every dish feels well thought out, and you can tell there’s real attention to quality and presentation. The service matches it perfectly too: friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and genuinely welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. The atmosphere really ties it all together. It’s got that perfect balance lively enough to feel like a great place to be, but still relaxed and comfortable so you can actually enjoy your time there. Whether you’re going for a casual meal or something a bit more special, it just works. On top of that, the prices are more than reasonable for what you’re getting, which makes it even easier to come back again and again. Honestly, it’s hard to find anything to complain about. If I had to pick one “problem,” it’s that the Black is dangerously smooth so easy to drink that stopping after two feels like a real challenge. Not exactly a bad issue to have, but definitely something to be aware of!”

“Checked out one of Joseph Holt's pubs situated in South Shore and sampled some items from their recently launched Spring menu. The historic listed building has been beautifully restored and turned into a family-friendly gastropub ~ We had the following: 》Hot Honey Chicken 》Halloumi Fries 》Garlic and Stilton Mushrooms 》Greek Style Braised Featherblade Steak 》Caesar Salad with chicken and bacon 》Ham and Pineapple Pizza 》Gin and Raspberry Cheesecake 》Cadbury Dairy Milk ice cream & Sundae 》Sticky Toffee Pudding 》Hugo Berry Spritz The meal was delectable from the appetising starters to the flavourful mains, refreshing cocktails and heavenly desserts ~ impossible to resist them. The attentive staff plus cosy ambiance made our time here so enjoyable, the perfect place to unwind after a busy day at work. Half Way House is one of Blackpool’s oldest pubs dating back to the mid-19th century and offers a wide array of fine beers, premium spirits, wine, prosecco etc. It has a large dining area with a stone-baked pizza station with booths, high tables and a beer garden. You can watch live sports throughout the week, pub quizzes every Sunday night and live music across the month. “I went with my husband and our dog and we were sat at the back which was fine, however while we waited for the waiter to show us to our table a woman with a child walked by and the woman was vaping!! 2 staff members close by must have seen this and did nothing, I went to the bar to order and right opposite the bar on high stools 2 people were vaping!! we were then sat having our meal and a young man was vaping at the next table. Honestly couldn’t wait to get out, food and staff amazing but wont be going back unless it’s managed better. I’m betting if I went to light a cigarette it would be noticed not that I smoke.”
