About Turtle Bay Plymouth

On 5 St Andrews Cross Roundabout in Plymouth, Turtle Bay Plymouth is a Caribbean restaurant built around a jerk pit, where chicken is marinated for 24 hours in a jerk rub and then flame-grilled. The half jerk chicken comes with jerk gravy, and slaw is among the side dishes. The kitchen is open, and the menu runs from breakfast and brunch through to a Bottomless Brunch for groups of friends and family. Cocktails are a major part of the drinks list, including the Sirens Call. The room is styled in a Caribbean theme with colourful decor and music playing. Dominoes are left on each table for guests to play while they wait for food.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often return to the jerk chicken, with one recommending the half chicken with jerk gravy, and the king prawns, coconut prawns and plantain crisps also get named. Cocktails come up close behind, including the 2 for 12 deal and a drink called Sirens Call, along with a bespoke birthday shot during a Bottomless Brunch. Several describe friendly, welcoming servers who checked in without fuss, gave menu recommendations and, in one case, brought a free birthday dessert. One reviewer who came for breakfast liked the charred toast and the dominoes left on each table, and another found the open kitchen and Caribbean decor lovely. The one critical review says the side portions have shrunk, describing the slaw and cucumber salad as two mouthfuls and the corn cut lengthwise into four pieces to look like more. That reviewer says the food used to be great and this was a second disappointing visit. Most other diners call the food generous, fresh and full of flavour, and one praises the special a server suggested.

“So amazing! Me and my childhood came here for our joint birthday treat! Super quick service! Amazing food and amazing drinks! Our server today was Gosia! She was so friendly and even gave us a free dessert as a birthday present! I will also say it’s a great value for money! So amazing! I couldn’t recommend enough!”

“It is second time, I gave them a chance and unfortunately they let Me down again. Portions of side dishes are so small it is 2 mouth fulls (slaw, cucumber salad) and corn is cut through lenghwise into four pieces so its look like there is a lot!? Absolutely disrespectful for clients. They used to be Great and food was awesome, now it is far away from that... I am really upset because of that”
