Customer Review Summary

Drinks draw the most praise, from cocktails called great to a lovely Botanist gin, often alongside the art deco room and the view over the Barcode. Close behind is the food: a six ounce steak with fries and salad, eggs benedict with a pot of English breakfast tea, flaky panko cod and chips, and a vegan smash burger and a steak sandwich enjoyed in the bar area with a dog. Service is usually described as friendly and quick even when busy, and staff will move tables for bigger parties. The recurring complaint is value. A few reviewers found portions small for the price, including the pulled beef and smoked bacon croquettes, though one said the taste made up for it. Other gripes are scattered: the cod's sauce was too lemony by the end, no one checked on one table's meal, one reviewer thought newer staff lacked confidence, and another discovered a 10% tip had been added automatically when paying at the counter. One birthday diner was greeted at the table with a glass of prosecco.

“Great place, had air con on a hot day. The host was great and friendly and the drinks were very good as well. They should advertise their 2 cocktails for £12.50 more!”

“Used the lift to access upper level walking into a lovely art deco, twenties feel room. Tables are fluid so staff are willing to move some for bigger parties which is great. I was greeted with a birthday glass of prosecco as I arrived at my table. Nice touch. Dinner was stunning. Their six ounce steak may sound small but it is wonderful to taste. Perfect accompanied with fries and luscious salad. A few cocktails may have been imbibed due to the ambience. I'd recommend this place to anyone wanting to feel special for the night.”

“Booked a table which I would recommend. I got the panko cod and chips. Very good and flaky cod but the sauce was a bit too lemony, becoming overpowering towards the end. The botanist gin was lovely. Service was good but no one checked to see how our meal was.”

“My first visit and what a delightful place to feel relaxed and spoilt. I went for the eggs benedict and I can honestly say they are the best I have had. Cannot fault them in any way. Served with a lovely pot of English breakfast tea which gave me 2.5 cups. The only gripe I have is I discovered after leaving that I was automatically charged a 10% tip without my consent. As I did not get a bill and paid at the counter I was not aware of this.”
  • Cara Turner
“Recently, I had a delightful dining experience at a charming spot. The drinks were top-notch, and the atmosphere was just right for our catch-up. While most of the food was tasty, I felt some dishes, like the Pulled Beef & Smoked Bacon Croquettes, could have had a bit more substance for the price. Overall, the service was spot on, and I appreciated the warm welcome. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try for a relaxed night out!”
