Customer Review Summary

Afternoon tea draws the most praise at The Dome, including a vegan version with a mix of sweet and savoury, described as fresh, beautifully presented and really tasty, with staff catering well to a large group with various dietary requirements. Close behind are the sea views from the window seats and the art deco interior. Diners also name braised beef, creamy mushroom pasta, loaded croissants and the cocktails, and several describe friendly, professional waiting staff, including a waiter who mentioned it was his first day. The complaints are specific. One reviewer's Christmas party meal had scanty turkey, dry potatoes and soggy sprouts under thick gravy, and the party was refused further drinks after complaining. Another found a booked table given away to late arrivals, with the manager responding with attitude before later apologizing. A breakfast diner called the decor tired and run down and felt the staff did not want to be there, and another waited a long time and never received a coffee. One reviewer, who had been refused a table, was seated instead in the front lobby by a kind bartender.

“Wedding party of 8, we had an amazing meal today in The Dome. As soon as you walk in you can feel the art deco class. We booked a private room with glass wall out towards the restaurant capturing the amazing sea views. We were really looked after, especially by Spencer and Emily. The food was also incredible. The cocktails were superb, this place even just for a drink is ideal. Thoroughly recommend for those who like to dress nice, eat well with a friendly and professional service. My new favourite place in Plymouth. Thanks to The Dome. 👍”

“The breakfast was pretty average however as it’s buy one get one free you can’t complain. I certainly wouldn’t pay full price,£14.95 for this breakfast but for two it’s pretty good value. The view is rather good but again we found the decor to be rather tired and pretty run down. Some new tables and chairs would certainly brighten things up and some fresh paint. On the morning we visited we arrived at 11am, the breakfast menu is served until 11.45am. Initially we were told the restaurant closed for breakfast at 11am but upon checking the restaurant we were offered a table (like they were doing us a favour). Upon entering the restaurant it was practically empty. The staff just didn’t seem like they wanted to be there. Shame because the view is lovely and it should be so much better.”

“We had afternoon tea at The Dome and it was absolutely perfect. We were seated by the window, which gave us a lovely view and made it so nice to sit, relax, and people watch. The afternoon tea itself was one of the best we’ve had in Plymouth as everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and really tasty. What made the experience even more special was the service from Spencer and Rachel, who were both fantastic and so attentive throughout. The staff really do make all the difference, and they helped make our visit feel warm and memorable. We’ll definitely be back.”

“We had booked a table in advance and even called in the morning to confirm. When we arrived just a few minutes late while driving from Torquay in a rainy weather, our table had been given away. Instead of greeting us politely, the manager responded with attitude, saying we should have called — even though we had already done so. The alternative table offered wasn’t great, and the interaction made us feel unwelcome, so we initially decided to leave. On our way out, we noticed a better table in the front lobby and asked the bartender, who was kind and accommodating enough to seat and serve us there. Later, the manager came to ask what happened and apologized after realizing we had called. While we appreciated the apology, the initial experience left a bad impression. Customer service and communication could definitely be improved.”
