About The Royal Oak
The Royal Oak is a pub at 25 Main Rd in Nottingham, open Tuesday to Sunday and closed Mondays. The kitchen cooks pub classics, including a Sunday roast served with red cabbage, cauliflower cheese and a large gravy boat, as well as lamb shank and a dessert board. The bar pours real ales from independent brewers. Inside, original features and fires remain, and an upstairs dining area offers more room for meals. Diners celebrating a birthday find a card left on their table, sometimes with a dessert or balloons. The ploughman's is served only until 5pm.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the Sunday roast, called superb and full of flavour, with red cabbage, cauliflower cheese and a huge gravy boat. Close behind are the steak, described as fantastic and cooked perfectly, and a lamb shank where every element was delicious. Reviewers also mention three real ales from independent brewers, a margarita from the bar, and the fires and original features inside. Staff are called friendly, patient and attentive, and walk-ins without a booking were still given a table, though one was told it is best to book. The main criticism comes from one reviewer who found the flavours ordinary for the price and was refused a herbal tea as reserved for the morning coffee bar, only to see staff using that bar shortly after. Several birthday diners received a card, balloons or a free dessert, and one had happy birthday sung to them.

“The Royal Oak in Watnall is a lovely venue. The inside of the building is really clean, modern and stylish, and it has a great atmosphere. The presentation of the food was excellent and looked fantastic when it arrived. Unfortunately, the food itself didn't quite match the presentation. It was perfectly nice but the flavours were quite ordinary, especially for the price. I felt it was a little expensive for what was served. The only thing that disappointed me was when I asked for a herbal tea. I was told they couldn't serve one because the herbal teas were only available from the morning coffee bar and they weren't allowed to use them. However, about 10 minutes later I saw the same member of staff and another colleague using that very coffee bar. It left me confused as to why they couldn't simply make me a herbal tea in the first place. Overall, it's a beautiful pub with a lovely interior, but the food could do with a bit more flavour to justify the prices. The service was generally fine, but the explanation about the herbal tea felt inconsistent and took the shine off what was otherwise a pleasant visit.”

“We visited the Royal Oak Watnall last night to celebrate my dad’s birthday, and I honestly can’t praise them enough. There were seven of us plus our dog, and from the moment we arrived the service was absolutely fantastic. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made us all feel so welcome. The food was lovely, and what really made the evening special were the thoughtful touches. I had called ahead because my dad had his heart set on a Ploughman’s, even though they stop serving them after 5pm. The team kindly saved one for him, which meant a lot and made his day. To top it all off, they surprised him with a birthday card and a piece of cake, which was such a lovely gesture and really showed how much they care about their customers. Thank you to everyone at the Royal Oak for helping make my dad’s birthday so special. We had a wonderful evening and will definitely be back!”

“This place has a lovely atmosphere! Will definitely be returning with all the family! The waitress behind the bar made me the best margarita I’ve ever had in the UK. And the food was seriously delicious. We didn’t book - although they told us when we got there it’s best to, they still found us a lovely table though.”
