About The Hole In The Wall Stonehouse
On Main Rd in Nottingham, The Hole In The Wall Stonehouse is a pub that serves carvery and roasts alongside stonebaked pizzas. The Stonecarver pizza puts the two together, with a carvery served on a pizza, which suits anyone who wants both in one order. Staff serve from the carvery counter, with gammon, turkey and beef on offer, plus Yorkshire puddings and vegetables including red cabbage, root veg mash, sprouts, carrots and peas. A queue forms at the counter at times. The pub is part of the Stonehouse family and runs pizza parties for children, and bottomless ice cream is available for kids.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return mostly for the Sunday carvery, with the beef, gammon and turkey singled out as tender and full of flavour, and the Yorkshire puds and a wide spread of veg, including red cabbage, root veg mash and sprouts, getting a mention too. Close behind is the stonecarver pizza, described as a carvery on a pizza. Several say the carvery is great value and that portions of meat are plentiful. Staff draw steady praise as welcoming, friendly and attentive, and families mention the outside play area visible from the dining room and the bottomless ice cream for kids. The complaints are modest. One diner found the veg not hot enough, so it was cold once they sat down, another notes the carvery queue can get a little long, and one regular says service and food quality had dipped before improving over recent visits. Reviewers also describe a table of six getting regular check backs and offers of side plates, and a walk-in party being seated without a booking.

“We had a fantastic Sunday carvery lunch and couldn’t have been more impressed with the service we received. Despite not having booked a table in advance, we were welcomed and accommodated with such professionalism, courtesy and warmth by Curtis. Nothing was too much trouble, and the whole team made us feel valued and very welcome from the moment we arrived. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was lovely and the whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable. It was particularly refreshing to experience such excellent customer service, with staff who clearly take pride in what they do and go out of their way to make guests feel comfortable. A huge thank you to the team for accommodating us so graciously and making our Sunday lunch such a pleasure. We would highly recommend this venue and will certainly be looking forward to returning. Outstanding hospitality, delicious food and a truly welcoming experience. A shout out for Annie who was an absolute diamond, when it came to answering questions about the area and giving us directions to reach our destination. We didn’t get lost Annie!!!”

“It'd been a while since I last had a carvery from anywhere and how glad I am I chose the Hole in the Wall. Julie, one of the chef's, was fantastic and at the perfect moment supplied fresh veg! Every bit of the food I had was amazing and most definitely the beef, which just melted in the mouth! Looking forward to visiting again very soon 👍🏻”

“Every single week for the last six weeks we have came and not one week have we had a bad carvery through? Jasmine is always running around bless, It has been absolutely incredible tasty and the staff can’t do enough to help you. Aubrey went out her way as our waitress Colin and William who was on the carvery are always smiling, no matter what and are very fast pase! You always get plenty of meat honestly there is nothing that I could possibly complain about sometimes the queue is a little bit long but what do you expect with such a perfect carvery!! Curtis the manager is doing a fantastic job Very well organised in the staff and customers also seem very happy. I would also just like to say that Seth is the best server! I have used the wall of staff for my review so I knew everyone’s names! Thank you for always being amazing and the park is a plus ❤️”

“I would definitely recommend Stone House to anyone looking for a genuine traditional English pub experience. From the moment you walk in, you can really feel the classic British pub atmosphere, and it has a warm, welcoming and relaxed character that makes you feel comfortable straight away. What I particularly enjoyed was the traditional pub environment. It has that authentic English feel that is becoming harder to find these days. The atmosphere is friendly and enjoyable, whether you are visiting for a casual drink, meeting friends, having a meal, or simply wanting to spend some time in a traditional British pub. The staff were welcoming and helpful, which made the whole experience even better. There is a really nice balance between a traditional pub atmosphere and a comfortable place where you can relax and enjoy yourself. I also appreciated the overall character and charm of the place. It feels like a proper local pub rather than a modern, overly commercial venue. If you are visiting the area and want to experience what a classic English pub is supposed to feel like, I would definitely suggest giving Stone House a try. It is a great place to sit back, enjoy the atmosphere and experience a traditional side of British pub culture. Overall, I had a very enjoyable experience at Stone House and would happily visit again. I definitely recommend it and think it is well worth a visit for anyone who appreciates a classic English pub and a friendly atmosphere.”

“Excellent meal! We ordered four carveries and every one was fresh, cooked perfectly, and great value for money. Claire and Seth were friendly, welcoming, and made us feel really looked after with their great conversation and service. A big thank you to John the chef for a fantastic meal. We’ll definitely be back!”
