Customer Review Summary

Friendly, attentive staff are the most repeated draw, with reviewers noting that service held up on a busy New Year's Day for a party of seven and at a crowded lunchtime. The food comes close behind, with a varied menu that suits vegetarians and smaller appetites. Diners name the roasts, chicken and bacon pie, and sausage and mash, and one reviewer suggests the mackerel starter and Asian beef main. Desserts singled out include a chocolate brownie sundae and vanilla panacotta with pears. Several call it good value, though one reviewer found a steak disappointing for its cost. The sharpest complaint comes from a diner whose food took a long time to arrive, then received crab cakes with no crab in them and a smoked haddock croquette described the same way, and says they will not eat there again. The bar area is described as bright, though one reviewer found it a bit noisy. One reviewer mentions a dog menu with a beef-flavoured dog beer, and another, seated in the bar while a band played in the garden, could hardly hear it.

“Really was a fantastic pub with great staff and hot food my only reason for dropping too 4 stars was one of us went for the steak and for £26 was a little disappointing. But all other meals where delicious”

“What an amazing place. Not only is it fully disabled access, it's dog friendly and has an extensive menu of glorious food. Has a full menu for dogs including doggy beer which was beef flavored. Gluten and dairy free food options as well as vegan. Full bar that serves a variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Added bonus is there street food nights and live bands. Would thoroughly recommend. The owner who we spoke with on Thursday evening was very welcoming and all the staff are friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.”

“Food took an age to arrive, and when it did the crab cakes had zero crab in them… these were returned but as they had taken so long to arrive, I didn’t bother getting any more… then the main course turned up and the smoked haddock croquette turned out to be another non-crab crab cake… so 2 for 2 on the disappointment scale.. Won’t be eating here again..!”

“Visited for the first time last night. Excellent proper food. Chicken and bacon pie, sausage and mash. Lovely. Staff friendly and attentive. Although there was a band in the garden, we were in the bar and could hardly hear them.”

“We went for lunch midweek and sat in the bar area which has authentic low wooden beams. Good customer service and very attentive. Menu had lots of different choices which was great as we had vegetarians and older people with smaller appetites. All food was fresh and appetising and empty plates were sent back. Deserts were yummy too especially the chocolate brownie sundae. I'd definitely return and recommend The Fox Pub for a good meal at a reasonable price.”
