Customer Review Summary
Roast dinners lead the praise, with one reviewer calling the roast always perfectly seasoned and another ranking the Sunday roast among the best they have eaten. Close behind is the pork belly with crackling, described by one diner as the best they have had. Others single out massive burgers and an excellent tempura squid starter. Reviewers describe a warm welcome, friendly staff, a cozy atmosphere, a great beer garden, a dog friendly pub, and games and a play area for children. One found the black pudding fritters not black puddingy enough. Two reviewers report real problems. One says the mains arrived after a long delay, with thin ham, a small overcooked egg, frozen chips and haddock whose batter was not crispy. Another says a table for four was offered by phone, but on arrival staff said there was no booking, and the party was turned away because the kitchen had stopped serving at 7:40pm, even after the call log was shown.

“Very disappointing customer service We made a last-minute call to book a table for 4 people. Although we were initially told 8pm would be too late, we were told we could have a table if we travelled over straight away. The young lady even asked whether we required high chairs. After making the journey, we were told there was no booking and that we must have called the wrong number. We showed our call log, which confirmed we had indeed called the correct number, but nobody took responsibility or attempted to resolve the situation. We were then turned away because the kitchen had stopped serving at 7:40pm on a Saturday. We completely understand that mistakes happen, but the lack of accountability and customer service was extremely disappointing. A simple apology and some effort to resolve the situation would have made a huge difference. Unfortunately, we left feeling very let down and would be reluctant to return. How can companies run a business by turning down custom particularly in these difficult times?”

“My wife and I ordered I had ham egg and chips, my wife had haddock chips & peas. We also had a starter of tempura squid between us. The starter came promptly and was excellent. However, thats where the compliments end. A further 45 mins past and our main courses eventually arrived.. iwas expecting sliced home cooked ham but instead it was poor quality "plastic" ham so thinly cut you could almost see through it,This was served with a small overcooked poor qualitÿ egg and frozen chips. My wifes haddock was a small fillet with the skin left on (lazy) that had obviously been held on the hotplate forr some time as the batter was like a skin and certainly not crispy and a total contrast to the batter on the squid on our starter. Maybe it was just a bad night but I would not recommend.”

“Always a perfect roast. Service is so relaxed but very efficient and organised. It’s effortless which is not easy. The pub is lovely with a great garden in a quaint village! The roast is always perfectly seasoned with lovely little touches of flavour! You can tell the produce is first class and the kitchen treat that with respect. Thank you Darbys”
