About The Windhover
On Brampton Ln in Northampton, The Windhover is a pub with real ales and a seasonal English menu, open daily. Chicken skewers appear as a starter or main option, and orders are taken at the table with food brought out by waitstaff. Garden seating gives an option for outdoor dining, and the entrance is step-free for visitors with mobility needs. Dogs are welcome inside, and free Wi-Fi is available. Reservations are recommended, and the pub accommodates large group bookings, including parties of around 20 and busy Christmas Day service. Takeaway and delivery both extend the menu beyond the premises for those eating off site. Diners should allow time between courses, as starters, mains, and desserts can arrive well apart.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roasts and the duo of lamb draw the strongest praise, with several diners calling the food well prepared and one large party reporting food that "couldn't be faulted at all." Close behind, the chicken skewers come up repeatedly but split opinion: some find them tasty, others describe them as dry, rock hard, or overpriced at up to £20 with no side included. The most persistent complaint is pacing: reviewers repeatedly report waits of 90 minutes to two hours between ordering and mains, with one recalling a pre-ordered white chocolate tart running out after a two-hour wait, and another waiting 40 minutes just to have an order taken. A few describe tables that needed repeated requests to be wiped, and a couple mention curt or dismissive staff, including one manager called rude after twice-returned overcooked fish and chips. Other visits describe staff as friendly and patient, with one reviewer given a free replacement dessert after a mix-up and a 20-person booking praised for smoothly run courses and a server who helped split the bill by family group.

“Ordered at 5:50pm (starters, mains and desserts), every single course took a long time to come out and was still waiting for dessert over 2 hours from when we placed the order. My mum ordered the white chocolate tart and when she went to chase where the desserts were, she was told there was none left, even though we’d pre-ordered it 2 hours before. The food was all very nice, but the service has been terrible and we feel let down by this. We have a 7 month old with us so ordered early because he usually goes to bed at 7:30pm and by time the food had come, he was too tired to even eat any of it.”

“Absolutely dreadful main course (fish and chips). Returned twice for being overcooked. Very rude manager, and very poor judgement. I have eaten here several times, I would normally give a five star, but when managers don’t care about their customers, then it’s not worth spending your hard earned money there. Won’t be going there in a hurry again and I will be calling head office on Monday morning about this.”

“Disappointed to book a table and arrive on time only to have to wait 15 minutes to be seated and given menus after having to ask! We were then told that you had run out of roast potatoes, on a Sunday this is very annoying and really not the …”
