About Althorp Coaching Inn
Althorp Coaching Inn is a historic coaching inn and pub on Main St in Great Brington, Northampton, and it takes overnight motorhome stopovers through Brit Stops. Inside, a period-style interior holds a bar area and log burners. Out back, a barn has a dart board, communal seating and a projector showing the F1. Sunday lunch comes with beef and a Yorkshire pudding, and a BBQ Sunday lunch is served as well. The Ploughman's Platter is made for sharing, with beef, chicken, hock, three cheeses, mixed salad, homemade pickle and warm bread with three different butters. Dogs are welcome. The car park is around the back of the building.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the charm of the old coaching inn itself, with its period interior, a barn out back with a dart board, and a shaded coach yard. Praised dishes include onion bhajis, halibut, and a shared platter of beef, chicken, hock, three cheeses and homemade pickle with warm bread and three butters, and several call the prices reasonable. Bar staff are described as friendly and welcoming, and one motorhome guest enjoyed a quiet overnight stop. One reviewer notes the car park is around the back and hard to find. Sunday lunch draws the sharpest complaints. One diner found the beef overcooked, the carrot raw, the lemon beurre blanc on the sea bass split and the pork belly fat unrendered, while another received mostly onions with two strips of beef. Service lapses recur: drinks forgotten and chased, a main course arriving before the olives and bread were finished, and plates dumped and cleared without a word. Still, one lunch guest remembers a projector in the barn showing the F1.

“What a wonderful find! To start off, what a beautiful piece of architecture! The whole structure is wonderful. Second, ALL of the staff were really nice and friendly which really made the whole experience feel even better from the off. Thirdly, food and ambiance were fantastic also. We were in the restaurant side and it was nice and snug/quiet. Overall, normal prices were very reasonable too considering what the owner has to keep running. No downside but the car park wasn’t easy to find. It’s around the back! Thanks for your great pub!”

“Went for Sunday lunch, which happened to be BBQ Sunday lunch. We ordered some Olives and Breads while we waited for our main lunch, which we both ordered beef. The olives and bread were delicious, however before we could finish eating them, the waitress arrived with our main course. She did apologise, however did not offer to take the lunches back until we had finished our breads etc, so needless to say, not impressed so far. The main meals was ok, if you like onions, as 1/2 the meal consisted of this, along with just 2 stips of beef, I x carrot, 3 x new potatoes along with burnt leeks mix, stuffing and Yorkshire pudding. I have cheaper Sunday lunches with a lot better selection of vegetables and more meat, at £26 each, not impressed. You are paying more for the location than the actual quality and value of the meal.”

“Such an amazing historic venue, in a very picturesque village of Great Brington. Very nice welcome from the two young ladies behind the bar. We ordered drinks then sat out in the shaded coach yard. We had a menu and decided on the shared Ploughman's Platter, it had beef, chicken, hock, 3 cheeses, a mixed salad and homemade branston styled pickle, along with hunks of warm bread with 3 different butters. Everything on the platter was amazing. The cost was £25 plus drinks which was really great value. Really enjoyed our visit and hope to return”

“Lovely old pub with charming character. We love coming here but our visit last night was marred by the service. The young woman who served the drinks and took our order was lovely. Couldn’t fault her. However, the man who served the food was nothing short of rude. No conversation, just dumped the plates on the table and walked away. He didn’t say a word. At the end of our meal he walked over and started removing the plates without even checking that we’d finished. Again not a single word came out of his mouth. I hadn’t even finished!! We were made to feel like an inconvenience. The young woman who served the drinks told me he was the manager. Manager??? Blimey, he needs to seek alternative employment as he was awful. Sadly, this will be our last visit to this beautiful pub.”
