Customer Review Summary
Roasts draw the most praise at this pub, with diners singling out a Father's Day lamb roast, a trio roast, and roast dinners with golden, crispy Yorkshire puddings and fresh vegetables. A beef rib and homemade children's burgers also get a mention. Reviewers describe friendly, attentive staff and a quiet evening where conversation came easily, and one family says a tucked-away section suited their daughter's sensory needs. The complaints carry real weight, though. One diner found lasagne, cod and chips, cheesecake and even olives unavailable, and called the gammon and prawn curry small and basic, with tails left on most prawns, while a second waiter was surly and brusque. Another says a butternut squash grill steak arrived without any squash and staff were rude when they complained, though the meal was eventually comped. One reviewer said the bowl of olives looked like a can from a supermarket shelf. One suggests booking, as it fills quickly. Two diners invited back after disappointing meals describe a complimentary meal with correctly warmed plates and very hot chips.

“What a fantastic dining experience. The food was absolutely outstanding, and every plate served at our table looked like a work of art. We were particularly impressed by the roast, which came with perfectly golden, crispy Yorkshire puddings. The flavours were balanced beautifully, and you could really taste the quality of the ingredients. I am already planning my next visit.”

“My family and I revisited the Spencer Arms on Friday, 24th of July 2026, following a disappointing meal the week before. We were invited back by the manager, Kath, to allow the Spencer Arms to demonstrate to us that good service and quality food is at the forefront of their minds when it comes to serving their customers. As promised by Kath and her team, we enjoyed an excellent meal with first-class service, our faith is very much restored in the Spencer Arms, and we are very grateful for the opportunity provided by Kath and the team to give them a second look We were served by Collette. who was very professional, gracious, courteous, and attentive. Collette kept us up-to-date with the progress of the meal, including timings. The pub was busy, but all the staff kept to calm head and worked as a team to serve their customers. Thank you for the opportunity, Kath, your gesture was very generous, and we do appreciate it. We will be back!”

“We visited the restaurant on Sunday 19th July in the evening. It was relatively quiet but this suited us as we could peacefully enjoy our meals. The staff were friendly and attentive and our roast dinners were tasty with fresh vegetables used. The background music was quiet so that we could converse at normal volumes.”

“Here’s a polished review you could post: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We visited The Spencer Arms for Father’s Day and had such a lovely experience from start to finish. The pub itself is beautiful, with a cosy country-style atmosphere that immediately makes you feel welcome. One thing that really stood out was that we were seated in our own little tucked-away section. As our daughter has ADHD and sensory issues, having a quieter space away from the main hustle and bustle made such a difference. She was able to relax and enjoy herself, and we had a completely stress-free meal with no meltdowns, which means the world to us as a family. We chose the Father’s Day set menu, which offered a fantastic selection of starters, mains and desserts. We all had the lamb roast, which was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. The children’s menu also had a great variety of options. Our two chose the burgers, which were clearly homemade and tasted amazing (yes, I may have pinched a few bites – mum tax! 😆). The desserts were incredible and rounded off the meal perfectly. The staff were lovely throughout our visit. They apologised a few times for the wait between our starter and main course, but honestly, when food is freshly cooked and of this quality, we don’t mind waiting a little longer. It was only around half an hour between courses and was well worth it. Considering we booked at the last minute on Father’s Day, we’re so glad we discovered The Spencer Arms. It exceeded our expectations in every way, and we’ll definitely be returning again soon. Highly recommended!”
