About The Bay Horse Middridge
The Bay Horse Middridge is a gastropub at 42 South Side in Newton Aycliffe, with a large eating area and extra seating upstairs. Drinks are ordered at the downstairs bar, where real ale is served. The kitchen serves a roast lunch with a vegetarian version alongside the meat one, so a mixed table can order the same meal. Cod and chips is on the menu, and sticky toffee pudding is among the desserts. Booking is essential here, as the pub can fill up and get busy.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is what most reviewers return to, with a thick slice of meat, crispy roast potatoes, plenty of fresh veg and loads of gravy. Close behind are the mince and dumplings, the chicken with spinach and mushroom sauce, fish and chips, and a sticky toffee pudding described as immense. Portions are repeatedly called generous, and staff are widely described as friendly and welcoming, with a good atmosphere and great real ale also mentioned.

“Booked a Family meal for 18:00 on a Sunday, place was quite busy when we arrived and we were seated upstairs. When we wanted to order drinks we would need to to go downstairs yo the bar do we only ordered 1 drink with our meal. Servers were great and polite when taking orders, there was quite a wait for food and the Children in our party got a little restless, there was an hour wait! Food arrived and it was nicely presented. Cod and chips- nice size piece of fish and tasted lovely. Sweet and sour chicken- spot on Hunters chicken- spot on Mushroom stroganoff- spot on Beefeater stroganoff- spot on Fajitas sizzler- spot on. Originally wanted wraps but was told that these were not served on a Sunday. Children Cheeseburger- nice size burger Childrens bolognese- not much meat in bolognese but tasted nice. Lamb cutlets, 3 cutlets with mushrooms, chips and onion rings, also had gravy (not sure this is needed unless you have potatoes instead of chips) also not sure onion rings were needed as didn't really go with the meal, peas would have been fine. All the Children ordered icecreams from the children's menu and were happy. All in all we were happy with quality of the food and value for money. Posh pub grub”

“Visited for the first time in twenty years since moving away from the area and it's just as amazing as it was then 🤩 Amazing food, lovely staff and a genuinely delightful pub. Food portions are very generous and the sticky toffee pudding was immense. I can't wait to come back when I visit again. My favourite pub 🙏💓”

“I an extremely upset that there is not a option of giving 10 STARS a lovely atmosphere 10 star service and the food was exceptional. Unfortunately my main course was so wonderful and large that I could not manage a desert. Great real ale as well.”
