About The Duke Of Wellington
On Darlington Rd in Durham, The Duke Of Wellington is a pub run as an inn, with an open fire and cask ales on the bar. The kitchen serves British pub dishes, and the menu includes a garlic chicken schnitzel and a shared platter for the table. Weekend brunch and Sunday lunch are both served, and a festive menu is also offered. Vegetarian and vegan options sit on the menu alongside the meat dishes, so mixed groups can order from one list. Customer Review Summary
Food draws the most praise, and the chicken schnitzel is named most specifically. One diner calls the food the best in Durham and recommends the garlic version, though another found theirs a bit dry while the rest of the table's meals were great. Others single out the leeks and potato soup, a falafel and salad wrap with potato skin chips, a turkey roll with gravy, the shared platter, weekend brunch, a first Sunday lunch and a festive menu for a group of six, with a dessert described as heavenly. Close behind, reviewers repeatedly describe friendly, welcoming staff and a relaxed, cosy atmosphere. A few add that the pub is dog friendly and the toilets are spotless. One reviewer was unhappy that salt was added to their chips when they would have preferred to choose that themselves, and another notes that ordering is done from the table. Several mention food arriving quickly, including the shared platter and the festive meal for six, which one reviewer says came promptly.

“We were in the area for a funeral last Friday and were a bit early so popped in here for a snack first. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, as was the pub. We ordered drinks and the shared platter which was very nice and excellent value. We received our order very quickly, highly recommended”
