Quick info
About The Pollards Inn
The Pollards Inn is a gastropub in Bishop Auckland at 104 Etherley Ln, open Tuesday to Sunday and closed Mondays. Most menu items can be made gluten free, so guests who avoid gluten can order across the menu instead of from a short list. Homemade chips arrive in large portions, and the kitchen's big plates can be taken home as leftovers. The bar serves four real ales, and dogs are welcome in the bar area. A fire sits in the dining space, which gives the room a focal point on cold evenings. Booking is needed.

Customer Review Summary
Huge portions of well-cooked pub food draw the most praise, with diners singling out a big steak and proper homemade chips that one reviewer says are reason enough to visit. Close behind are the lovely staff and the warm, cosy atmosphere, including a fire. Several say booking is needed because the place is busy, and one found the car park full by early evening. A gluten free diner found most dishes could be adapted, and one reviewer notes the bar area is dog friendly. Four real ales also get a mention. Not every visit landed. One reviewer found their dish average and wished the chips had been homemade, and another describes chicken that looked watery with blood spots, says a waitress answered that meals are temperature tested, and reports that a replacement was offered only after the complaint. Another reviewer notes leftovers can be taken home, and one recalls staff setting up birthday balloons ahead of a family meal.

“Lovely food and atmosphere, food is amazing and brilliant value for money, if you can't finish it you can take it home to finish later, but a lovely pub as a night out as a couple of with family.”

“Food is always fab here. Never had a bad meal. Recently found out I’m gluten free & they were very accommodating. Made my first meal out since finding out easy breezy. Plenty of choice on the menu & most things can be made gluten free. Dog friendly in the bar area too which is also a bonus for us. A great all rounder. Booking needed however, as these guys are always busy & there’s a reason why 🩷”

“Visited tonight for a birthday meal with friends…. Two of us got chicken, when I cut into mine instantly knew something wasn’t right! Not at all tender, you could feel it tear and looked watery with blood spots …. A blonde waitress came over and asked if everything was ok? So I told her I wasn’t happy with the chicken I said it’s not cooked. For her to answer with an attitude and say yes it is everything gets temperature tested…… wow Well that customer service wasn’t what you expect ! No attempt to change or do anything to help…. So my reply well pet when I’m poorly and reporting food poisoning on your head be it…. Awful attitude Then realised and said well if I have to I can change it ! Hahaha nah it’s fine damage done now I won’t be back …… such a shame as the other dark haired waitress was so lovely 🥰”
